Intro Wp Premium Themes
Within the previous ten decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress topics and have been really disappointed. Up until recently, I had been utilizing MyThemeShop, which was pretty excellent. But I had to perform a lot of customization to make it do and work the way I needed it to. A few of weeks ago I decided to provide GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s by far the best WordPress theme I’ve discovered in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am now moving all of my websites to GeneratePress. I’ll enter precisely why in my in-depth GeneratePress review below. And if you are wondering, yes I have attempted Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X motif, Divi as well as many other lightweight and heavier multicolored themes. Wp Premium Themes
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I have really seen it for many years from the WordPress repository. Most of you realize that I’m fairly picky when it comes to web performance, and so I have a tendency to ignore everything from the repository. Typically because a lot of stuff on there isn’t that great, or not supported for long. However, in this circumstance, this was a mistake. The theme currently has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ active matches, with over 500 5-star ratings. So clearly Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Actually set up the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the developer was thinking exactly how I was envisioning a theme should get the job done. And I’ll go into that more below, but let’s first look at some of the features. I’m going to be covering the premium edition of the subject, because it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you ever read this and so are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you do not need running. This is only one of the greatest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks great across all devices.
Schema built-in, for better outcomes in SERPs.
Impressive integration using all the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a fan of this customizer in the past, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser support back to IE8.
It also works great with all the popular fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these are a great combo. I have also read that people using Beaver Builder have had success.
Font wonderful built-in.
A lot of hooks and filters that make it great for programmers.
Excellent active service from the developer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have great documentation on their site, the theme has existed long enough that everything I Googled throughout the setup process was found inside a couple of seconds in their own forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time for the fun part! I test a new theme right out of the box without any customizations to see how fast the foundation is. This tells me a great deal of what I can expect by the time that I add everything to it. Running the inventory GeneratePress WordPress theme on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to produce a whole lot of big files, but this isn’t the case. You can tell that Tom actually worked hard on making sure that every file loaded in GeneratePress is as little as possible. With HTTP/2, the number of documents isn’t as important. But the size is! Have a look at some of the core GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
That is a programmer that cares about functionality! And I have Seen the same throughout all the premium add-ons. They’re literally as small as possible get them. In fact, Font Awesome is probably the largest file contained. And that is not even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving round the corner, we could expect that to get smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate whatever you are not using to guarantee they do not load on your site. Since the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin that has a script manager built, I felt at home for this. Everything ought to be made this way.
If You are interested, I’m using the following add-ons on this website:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best characteristics of GeneratePress is that I no more need to use a Child motif . This makes my life much simpler. No more editing my functions.php or header.php documents. I will literally update my GeneratePress theme this very moment and not shed one customization. The hooks add-on certainly can help make this possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress site. Wp Premium Themes
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post that you have a great deal of options. You can change the sidebar layout and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page involving the default to a complete width page, in addition to disable elements.
The WordPress customizer options is really where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, a lot of these options are enabled by the superior add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we would be here daily. However, allow me to show you couple which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be made by precisely the exact same developer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to add responsive columns into any page or post. Characteristics include:
Desktop grid thickness
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid thickness
Insert custom classes
Add custom inline styles
Equal height columns
Here is An example under:
You might want to Also grab his amazing WP Show Posts plugin too. View my featured articles on the sidebar of this site? That is using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a particular”featured” category. You might also get it show past modified/updated articles, recent articles, etc.. I am using the free version and it works terrific.
The Segments add-in in the premium edition of GeneratePress allows you to do all sorts of things concerning design. Think of it like a page builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not just for blogs! I’m in fact using GeneratePress for our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks nothing like a site.
For all those Of you that are regular readers, you probably did not even notice that I changed the entire theme that powers woorkup.com. It only took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme that I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My old MyThemeShop theme was already pretty quickly, but I spent a great deal of time scrutinizing it. In reality, I’ve gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to print all of my customizations. My advice today is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress motif I managed to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child theme. Each of the customizations were made with the awesome GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve running on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he can create a copy of woorkup for the brand new GeneratePress blog library. I am happy to let you know that you can now put in my woorkup motif on your GeneratePress website with only a single click! It’s called the Marketer motif. Get started using a fantastic blog design immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over my personal site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimal website, since I do not use it for much. As you can see it loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to duplicate the entire appearance 100 percent in GeneratePress in under an hour. And as you can see it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to eliminate a couple plugins which weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over our business website, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimal site, as we simply use it for our LLC. As you can see it already loaded pretty quickly. Wp Premium Themes
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to move everything over and get it looking exactly how I wanted it in under one hour. And as you can see it loads even faster! Amazing. I was able to eliminate a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I am moving over all my sites for this (which includes several EDD e-commerce websites ). Once I have my 9 websites all running in GP without any child topics, my life will be a breeze! The developer has revived my faith in multi-purpose themes, which when done the correct way, can actually perform quicker.
And The best news is, I finally have a thousand more choices to choose from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Good For…
GeneratePress Is the perfect option for performance-focused users who want to have the ability to personalize and control exactly how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the site that you build will have a great foundation to make it load quickly.
Because Of that, those who assemble WordPress websites for a living love GeneratePress. They will typically pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of website.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Combination If…
…you Need something that will instantly look perfect from the box.
For Example, if you realize you wish to create a fashion blog, you might be happier picking out a niche theme that’s developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a lot simpler to use, thanks to its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones when you initially install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you want it to, you’ll almost certainly need to go in and personalize things. And though the significant benefit of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, particularly casual users, do not like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features Which Make It Unique
Here Are some of the particular features that clarify why GeneratePress is so common.
Plenty Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another area where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, which can be convenient as you’ll have the ability to see all the changes that you make in real time.
The Free version of GeneratePress gives you decent possibilities, but should you have GeneratePress Premium, you’ll have the ability to customize nearly all about your website.
For Example, if you go into the Design region, you can configure detailed settings for your:
- Header — you can move your header around and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, including sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — like featured picture size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — like how many widgets to add
Similarly, The Typography area lets you control the font for every single element on your website, such as buttons:
And You also get a detailed region to control the color of each and every element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will give you much more customization options in the WordPress Customizer than most other topics. This amount of detail may be a bit overwhelming if you are a beginner. But once you realize the way the settings come together, you’ll have complete control on how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Across All of its attributes, GeneratePress consistently includes a focus on exceptional performance and tidy code. The whole motif is less than 30 kB, which is about as little as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress topics are still 200+ kB. And a few badly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which helps you avoid the leave blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Place That collectively, and you get a superfast-loading motif. How quickly? To give you an idea, I conducted a small test.
First, I set up a vacant site utilizing a haphazard popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its performance with Pingdom, it
- Had a performance tier of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That’s Not bad at all! However, GeneratePress can perform.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on exactly the exact same test website without changing anything else. Here is how GeneratePress did:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% fewer
If You do that same test with different topics, you are going to continue to find that GeneratePress is one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes in life. Wp Premium Themes
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature which lets you create custom hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a exceptional page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is sort of like lightweight page building. It lets you create separate”sections” onto a webpage, each with their own design and column settings.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular port where you can select and choose exactly which characteristics you want to trigger.
That Way, you do not need to slow your site down for a feature that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The last, you needed to construct GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas no matter what, which left the theme difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, though, the programmer added a new Site Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users that lets you easily import any one of those 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them directly from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a few buttons to import a demo site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Detailed Control Over Each Piece Of Content
With Most themes, each post and page will use the same settings for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — however you don’t have very much control past that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a brand new Layout meta name box for every single page and post:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (like changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to use
- Disable certain elements, like your header, navigation menu, post featured picture, post title, or footer
- Create a special”container” for your page builder
Where These controls are the most useful is if you’re using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain components, you are in a position to produce the correct baseline for your page builder layout, which makes it easy to create custom articles as needed. Wp Premium Themes
GeneratePress Pricing: Cheap And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress theme is available for free at WordPress.org.
That said, If you are seriously interested in using GeneratePress, I believe you should buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what produces the theme so elastic. The free version doesn’t give you almost as many configurations from the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium is also still quite affordable. It costs just $39.95, which provides you use on unlimited sites. You will also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and updates following the first year (you can, obviously, continue using GeneratePress after the initial year without beating — you just won’t get any more upgrades ).
When You consider that the typical premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic value.
As I mentioned, I do not think GeneratePress is for everyone.
If You desire a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by buying a theme that fits your needs for your market from day one.
But If you’re willing to spend some time altering settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any type of WordPress website. Or, you may even have the ability to find a starter website that fits your needs to save a little time.
Additionally, It is one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes you will find. So if you’re seeking the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s base is a great decision.
If You combine it with fast-loading hosting, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty making your site load in under one second. Wp Premium Themes
