Intro WordPress Photography Themes Free
Over the previous 10 decades, I have used a great deal of different WordPress themes and have been really disappointed. Up until recently, I had been utilizing MyThemeShop, that was pretty excellent. However, I had to perform a lot of customization to make it perform and operate the way I needed it to. A few weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is by far the finest WordPress theme I have discovered in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am moving all my sites to GeneratePress. I’ll enter exactly why in my in-depth GeneratePress review below. And if you are wondering, yes I have attempted Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi in addition to several other lightweight and heavier multi-purpose themes. GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I’ve actually seen it for years from the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I’m fairly picky when it comes to web performance, and so I have a tendency to ignore everything in the repository. Typically because a lot of things on there isn’t that great, or not supported for long. However, in this case, that was a mistake. The theme currently has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ busy matches, with over 500 5-star evaluations. So obviously Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Actually installed the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking precisely how I was envisioning a theme should get the job done. And I’ll go into that more below, but let us first look at a number of the features. I’m going to be covering the superior edition of the theme, because it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, in the event that you read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you don’t want running. This is one of the greatest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks great across all of the devices.
Schema built-in, for greater results in SERPs.
Dramatic integration with all the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a fan of the customizer in the past, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these really are a terrific combo. I have also read that people using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font wonderful built-in.
Tons of filters and hooks that make it great for programmers.
Excellent active support from the developer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also incredible. Besides have good documentation on their website, the theme has been around long enough that everything I Googled during the setup process was found within a few seconds in their own forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time for the fun part! I always test a new theme right from the box without any customizations to see how fast the foundation is. This tells me a lot of what I can expect by the time I add everything to it. Running the inventory GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular layout was going to generate a lot of big files, but this is not the case. You may tell that Tom literally worked hard on ensuring every record loaded in GeneratePress is as small as possible. With HTTP/2, the amount of files isn’t as important. But the dimensions is! Have a look at a few of the core GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
That is a programmer that cares about performance! And I have Seen the same throughout all of the premium add-ons. They’re as small as possible get them. In reality, Font Awesome is most likely the biggest file contained. And that isn’t even his. With Font Awesome 5 arriving around the cornerwe could anticipate that to get smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate anything you aren’t using to ensure they do not load on your website. Since the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built, I felt at home for this. Everything should be designed this way.
If You are interested, I’m using the next add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is I no more have to use a young child theme. This makes my life much easier. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I can literally upgrade my GeneratePress theme this exact moment rather than lose one customization. The hooks add-on definitely can help make it possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. WordPress Photography Themes Free
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a great deal of options. You are able to alter the sidebar layout and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page between the default to a full width page, as well as disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is really where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, lots of these choices are enabled by the superior add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we would be here all day. But let me show you few which really come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be created by precisely the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to add responsive columns into any page or post. Features include:
Desktop grid thickness
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid width
Add Customized courses
Add custom inline designs
Equal height columns
This is An example below:
You might want to Also grab his amazing WP Show Posts plugin also. View my featured articles on the sidebar of this site? That is using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a particular”featured” category. You can also have it show past modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I am using the free version and it works terrific.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you do all sorts of things in terms of design. Think of it like a page builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not only for blogs! I am in reality using GeneratePress for our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) which is operating Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to look it over. However, as you can see below, it looks like a site.
For those Of you that are regular readers, you probably did not even notice I changed the whole theme that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif which I had spent a year customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was already pretty fast, but I spent a great deal of time scrutinizing it. In fact, I’ve gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to print all my customizations. My advice today is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress motif I was able to attain faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child theme. Each of the customizations were created with the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve running on woorkup? You’re in luck. Tom asked if he can make a copy of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I’m pleased to allow you to know that you can now put in my woorkup theme on your GeneratePress website with just a single click! It is called the Marketer motif. Get started using a great blog design immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over my private site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimal site, as I do not use it for much. As you can see it loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to duplicate the whole appearance 100 percent in GeneratePress in under one hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to eliminate a few plugins that weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization website, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a motif from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimum site, as we just use it to our LLC. Since you can see it loaded pretty fast. WordPress Photography Themes Free
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to again move everything over and get it looking exactly how I needed it in under an hour. And as you can see it loads even faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can not express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I am moving over all of my sites for this (which includes some EDD e-commerce websites ). After I’ve got my 9 websites all running in GP with no child topics, my entire life will be a breeze! The programmer has revived my faith in multi-purpose subjects , and that when done the correct way, can actually perform quicker.
And The best thing isI finally have a thousand more options to pick from than I did earlier.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal alternative for performance-focused users that want to be able to customize and control precisely how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress perform pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the site that you build will have a fantastic foundation to make it load fast.
Since Of that, people who build WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll normally pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of site.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Fit If…
…you Want something that will instantly look perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you know you want to create a style blog, you may be happier choosing a niche theme that’s developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a great deal simpler to use, thanks to its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones if you first install it.
So To create GeneratePress look how you want it to, you’ll most likely need to go in and customize things. And though the substantial benefit of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, many users, especially casual users, do not like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features Which Make It Unique
Here Are some of the particular characteristics that explain why GeneratePress is so popular.
Lots Of Customization Options In The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Performance, another place where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization choices.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, and this is convenient because you will have the ability to see all of the changes that you make in real time.
The Free version of GeneratePress provides you decent options, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you’ll have the ability to customize pretty much everything about your website.
For Example, if you go into the Layout region, you can configure detailed settings for your:
- Header — you can move your header around and alter its own styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post design — such as featured image size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like the number of widgets to include
Similarly, The Typography place enables you to control the font for each and every element on your site, including buttons:
And You also get a detailed region to control the color of every single element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will provide you much more customization options from the WordPress Customizer than most other themes. This level of detail may be a bit overwhelming if you are a newcomer. But as soon as you realize how the preferences come together, you will have complete control over how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Around All of its attributes, GeneratePress consistently has a focus on excellent performance and clean code. The entire theme is less than 30 kB, which is about as little as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And a few poorly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which helps you avoid the leave blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Put That together, and you get a superfast-loading theme. How quickly? To give you a sense, I ran a small test.
First, I put up an empty website utilizing a haphazard popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After testing its functionality with Pingdom, it
- Had a performance tier of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That’s Not bad at all! But GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on exactly the same test website without changing anything else. Here is how GeneratePress did:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% less
If You do the exact same test with different topics, you are going to continue to see that GeneratePress is among the fastest-loading WordPress themes in existence. WordPress Photography Themes Free
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus A Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls from the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature that allows you create customized hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a exceptional page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — that is kind of like lightweight page construction. It permits you to create different”sections” on a page, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular interface where you could select and choose what characteristics you would like to activate.
That Way, you do not have to slow down your site for a feature that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you had to build GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas no matter what, which made the motif difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, however, the developer added a fresh Website Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users which allows you easily import any among the 25+ pre-built demonstration websites .
You Can import them directly from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click a couple buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Detailed Control Over Every Bit Of Content
With Most themes, every post and page will use the same settings for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — but you don’t have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a brand new Design meta name box for each and every page and post:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to use
- Disable certain elements, like your header, navigation menu, article featured picture, article title, or footer
- Produce a special”container” to your page builder
Where These controls are the most useful is if you’re using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you’re in a position to create the proper baseline for your own page builder layout, making it effortless to create custom articles as needed. WordPress Photography Themes Free
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress motif can be obtained at no cost at WordPress.org.
That said, If you are seriously interested in using GeneratePress, I believe you should purchase the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that is what produces the theme so flexible. The free version doesn’t give you almost as many configurations in the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium is also still quite affordable. It costs just $39.95, which gives you use on infinite websites . You’ll also get a 40% discount if you want to renew to continue receiving support and updates after the first year (you can, obviously, keep using GeneratePress following the initial year without renewing — you just won’t get any more updates).
When You consider the normal premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic value.
As I said, I do not believe GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You want a niche-specific theme, you can probably save time by buying a theme that satisfies your requirements for your niche from day one.
But If you are willing to spend time altering settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any sort of WordPress website. Or, you may even be able to find a starter website that fulfills your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It’s among the fastest-loading WordPress themes you will locate. So if you’re seeking the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a great choice.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, so you should have no problem making your website load in under one minute. WordPress Photography Themes Free
