Intro Template WordPress Premium Free
Over the past ten decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress themes and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I had been using MyThemeShop, which was pretty excellent. However, I still had to do a great deal of customization to allow it to perform and work the way I needed it to. A couple of weeks ago I decided to provide GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s by far the best WordPress theme I’ve discovered in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am moving all of my sites to GeneratePress. I will enter exactly why in my in-depth GeneratePress review under. And if you’re wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi in addition to many other lightweight and heavier multi-purpose themes. Template WordPress Premium Free
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a developer from Canada. I’ve really seen it for years from the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I’m fairly picky when it comes to web performance, so I have a tendency to dismiss everything in the repository. Typically because a great deal of stuff on there isn’t that good, or not supported for long. However, in this circumstance, this was a mistake. The motif now has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ active installs, with over 500 5-star evaluations. So obviously Tom is doing something right here.
I Really set up the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the developer was thinking exactly how I was envisioning a theme should get the job done. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at a number of the qualities. I will be covering the premium version of the theme, since it’s worth very penny. In fact, Tom, in the event that you ever read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t need running. This is only one of the greatest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks great across all devices.
Schema built-in, for better results in SERPs.
Impressive integration with all the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a fan of this customizer previously, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with all popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Fantastic browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these really are a great combo. I’ve also read that people using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font wonderful built-in.
Tons of filters and hooks that make it great for programmers.
Excellent active service from the programmer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have great documentation on their site, the theme has existed long enough that what I Googled during the setup procedure was found within a few seconds from their own forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it is Time to the fun part! I always test a brand new theme right out of the box with no customizations to see how fast the base is. This tells me a lot of what I can expect by the time that I add everything for this. Running the inventory GeneratePress WordPress theme on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was quite impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular layout was going to generate a whole lot of big files, but that is not the situation. You can tell that Tom literally worked hard on making sure that every file loaded in GeneratePress is as little as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the amount of files isn’t as important. But the dimensions is! Have a peek at a few of the core GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a developer that cares about functionality! And I’ve Seen the same throughout all of the premium add-ons. They are as small as possible get them. In fact, Font Awesome is most likely the largest file included. And that isn’t even his. With Font Awesome 5 coming around the cornerwe could anticipate this to secure smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are setup in what I’d call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate anything you are not using to guarantee they don’t load on your website. Since the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin that has a script supervisor built, I felt at home with this. Everything ought to be made this way.
If You’re interested, I’m using the following add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is that I no more need to use a young child motif . This makes my life so much simpler. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I will literally upgrade my GeneratePress motif this very minute and not lose one customization. The hooks add-on certainly can help make this possible. It allows you to incorporate custom code/PHP everywhere throughout your WordPress website. Template WordPress Premium Free
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a great deal of options. You can change the sidebar layout and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page involving the default to a full width page, in addition to disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is really where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, lots of these choices are enabled from the premium add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we’d be here daily. However, let me show you few which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be created by the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super easy way to add responsive columns to any page or post. Characteristics include:
Desktop grid thickness
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid thickness
Insert Customized courses
Add custom inline designs
Equal height columns
Here is An example below:
You might want to Also catch his amazing WP Show Posts plugin too. View my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to display posts from a specific”featured” category. You can also get it show past modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I am using the free version and it works terrific.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Think of it like a webpage builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not only for blogs! I am in fact using GeneratePress to our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) that is operating Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks like a site.
For all those Of those who are regular readers, you likely didn’t even notice that I changed the entire theme that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif which I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop theme was already pretty fast, but I spent a lot of time scrutinizing it. In reality, I have gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to print all of my customizations. My advice today is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress motif I was able to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I don’t have a child motif. All the customizations were made with the awesome GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I have working on woorkup? You’re in luck. Tom asked if he could make a replica of woorkup to your brand new GeneratePress site library. I’m pleased to let you know that you can now install my woorkup theme on your own GeneratePress site with only a single click! It is called the Marketer motif. Get started with a fantastic blog design immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved within my private website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It is a fairly basic minimal website, as I do not use it for much. Since you can see it already loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to duplicate the whole appearance 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And since you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a few plugins that weren’t needed because of GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over our business website, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum site, as we simply use it to our LLC. Since you can see it loaded pretty fast. Template WordPress Premium Free
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under an hour. And as you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I’m moving over all of my websites for this (which comprises some EDD e-commerce websites ). Once I have my 9 sites all running in GP with no child topics, my entire life is going to be a breeze! The developer has revived my faith in multi-purpose subjects , and that when done the right way, can actually perform faster.
And The best thing is, I now have a billion more choices to pick from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the perfect alternative for performance-focused users who wish to have the ability to customize and control exactly how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the website that you build will have a fantastic base to make it load quickly.
Because Of that, people who build WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They will typically pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any kind of site.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Fit If…
…you Need something that will immediately look perfect from the box.
For Example, if you realize you wish to produce a fashion blog, you might be happier picking out a market theme that is developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
While GeneratePress is becoming a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones when you first install it.
So To create GeneratePress look how you want it to, you’ll almost certainly need to go in and personalize things. And while the substantial benefit of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, especially casual users, do not like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are some of the particular features that clarify why GeneratePress is so common.
Plenty Of Customization Options In The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Performance, another place where GeneratePress does well is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, which can be convenient because you will be able to see all the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress gives you adequate possibilities, but if you own GeneratePress Premium, you will have the ability to customize pretty much everything about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Layout area, you may configure detailed settings for yourown:
- Header — you can move your header round and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can utilize one or two sidebars
- Blog post design — like featured picture size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — like how many widgets to include
Likewise, The Typography area enables you to control the font to get every single element on your site, including buttons:
And You also receive a detailed region to control the color of each and every element on your website.
All In all, GeneratePress will give you a lot more customization options in the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This level of detail may be a little overwhelming if you’re a beginner. But once you understand how the preferences come together, you’ll have complete control on how your site looks.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Around All its features, GeneratePress consistently has a focus on exceptional performance and clean code. The entire theme is less than 30 kB, which will be about as small as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And a few poorly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which helps you avoid the leave blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Put That collectively, and you obtain a superfast-loading theme. How quickly? To give you an idea, I ran a little test.
First, I put up a vacant website using a haphazard popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After testing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance tier of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That is Not bad at all! But GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on the exact same test website without altering anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% less
If You do the exact same test with other topics, you are going to continue to see that GeneratePress is among those fastest-loading WordPress topics in life. Template WordPress Premium Free
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus A Modular Approach
Beyond Giving you more style controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature which lets you create customized hooks, page headers, or layout templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a unique page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — that is kind of like lightweight page construction. It permits you to create different”sections” on a webpage, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular port where you can select and choose exactly which characteristics you would like to trigger.
That Way, you don’t need to slow down your site for a feature which you’re never going to use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Site
In The past, you had to construct GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas regardless of what, which made the motif difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, though, the programmer added a new Website Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users which allows you easily import any one of the 25+ pre-built demonstration websites .
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a few buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Comprehensive Control Over Each Piece Of Content
With Most topics, every post and page will use the same settings for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — but you do not have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by providing you a new Design meta name box for each and every post and page:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to use
- Disable certain components, like your header, navigation menu, article featured picture, post title, or footer
- Create a special”container” for your own page builder
Where These controls would be the most useful is if you are using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you’re able to create the correct baseline for your own page builder design, making it easy to create custom articles as needed. Template WordPress Premium Free
GeneratePress Pricing: Cheap And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress theme can be obtained for free at WordPress.org.
That said, If you are serious about utilizing GeneratePress, I feel you should purchase the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that is what makes the theme so elastic. The free version doesn’t give you almost as numerous configurations from the WordPress Customizer. And you will also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still fairly affordable. It costs only $39.95, which gives you use on infinite websites . You will also get a 40% discount if you want to renew to keep on receiving support and updates following the first year (you can, of course, keep using GeneratePress after the initial year without renewing — you just won’t get any more upgrades ).
When You consider the normal premium WordPress theme will often cost around $60, GeneratePress offers a great value.
As I mentioned, I don’t believe GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You desire a niche-specific theme, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that fits your needs for your niche out of day one.
But If you are willing to spend some time changing preferences, then GeneratePress’ style controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any sort of WordPress site. Or, you might even be able to locate a starter website that fits your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It is among those fastest-loading WordPress topics that you will find. So if you’re seeking the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a great decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, so you should have no difficulty making your site load in under one minute. Template WordPress Premium Free
