Introduction Structurepress Theme
Within the previous ten years, I’ve used a great deal of different WordPress topics and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I had been utilizing MyThemeShop, which was pretty good. But I had to do a great deal of customization to allow it to do and work the way I needed it to. A few of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is undoubtedly the best WordPress theme I’ve found in a decade . I had been dismissed and am now moving all my websites to GeneratePress. I will enter precisely why in my comprehensive GeneratePress review under. And if you are wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X motif, Divi in addition to many other lightweight and thicker multicolored themes. Structurepress Theme
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I’ve actually seen it for years in the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I am fairly picky when it comes to web performance, so I have a tendency to dismiss everything in the repository. Typically because a lot of stuff on there isn’t that good, or not supported for long. However, in this case, that was a mistake. The motif now has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ busy installs, with over 500 5-star ratings. So obviously Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Actually installed the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the developer was thinking exactly how I was envisioning a theme should work. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at a number of the features. I will be covering the premium edition of the theme, because it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t need running. This is only one of the greatest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all of the devices.
Schema built-in, for better outcomes in SERPs.
Impressive integration using all the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a lover of this customizer in the past, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Fantastic browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with all the popular fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these are a terrific combo. I’ve also read that people using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font wonderful built-in.
A lot of hooks and filters which make it great for developers.
Excellent active service from the programmer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have good documentation on their website, the subject has been around long enough that everything I wholeheartedly throughout the setup procedure was found within a few seconds from their forum.
Diving Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time for the fun part! I test a brand new theme right from the box without any customizations to see how fast the foundation is. This tells me a lot of what I can expect by the time I add everything to it. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular layout was going to produce a lot of big files, but this is not the situation. You can tell that Tom literally worked hard on ensuring that every record packed in GeneratePress is as little as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the amount of documents is not as significant. But the dimensions is! Take a look at a few of the core GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a programmer that cares about performance! And I have Seen exactly the same during each the premium add-ons. They are literally as small as you can possibly get them. In reality, Font Awesome is probably the largest file contained. And that isn’t even his. With Font Awesome 5 arriving around the cornerwe could anticipate this to secure smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I’d call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate anything you aren’t using to guarantee they don’t load on your website. Since the co-developer of this perfmatters plugin that has a script manager built-in, I felt at home for this. Everything should be made this way.
If You’re curious, I’m using the following add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best characteristics of GeneratePress is I no more have to use a Child theme. This makes my life much simpler. No longer editing my functions.php or header.php files. I can literally upgrade my GeneratePress theme this exact minute rather than lose one customization. The hooks add-on certainly helps make it possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress site. Structurepress Theme
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a great deal of options. You are able to change the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can quickly swap a page between the default option to a full width page, as well as disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is really where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, lots of these choices are permitted by the superior add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we’d be here daily. However, allow me to show you few which really come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also made by the same programmer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super easy way to add responsive columns to any page or article. Characteristics include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid width
Add Customized classes
Add custom inline styles
Equal height columns
This is An example below:
You May Want to Also catch his incredible WP Display Posts plugin too. See my featured articles on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Show Posts plugin. I have it set to display posts from a particular”featured” category. You might also have it show last modified/updated posts, recent articles, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works great.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Consider it like a page builder without the bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not only for blogs! I am in fact utilizing GeneratePress to our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) which is operating Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks like a blog.
For those Of those that are regular readers, you likely didn’t even notice I changed the entire motif that powers woorkup.com. It only took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif which I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison under.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My old MyThemeShop theme was pretty quickly, but I invested a lot of time customizing it. In reality, I’ve gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to publish all of my customizations. My advice today is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress motif I managed to attain faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And keep in mind, I do not have a child theme. Each of the customizations were made using the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve working on woorkup? You’re in luck. Tom asked if he can make a copy of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I’m pleased to allow you to know that now you can put in my woorkup motif in your own GeneratePress website with only a single click! It is called the Marketer motif. Get started with a great blog design instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over my personal site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a motif from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimal website, as I do not use it for much. As you can see it loaded pretty fast.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to replicate the entire appearance 100% in GeneratePress in under one hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a few plugins which weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum website, as we simply use it for our LLC. As you can see it already loaded pretty quickly. Structurepress Theme
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to again move everything over and get it looking exactly how I wanted it in under an hour. And since you can see it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I’m moving over all my websites to it (which includes some EDD e-commerce websites ). Once I have my 9 sites all running in GP without any child themes, my life is going to be a breeze! The developer has revived my faith in multi-purpose themes, and that when done the right way, can actually perform quicker.
And The best news is, I now have a thousand more choices to pick from than I did earlier.
What GeneratePress Is Good For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal option for performance-focused users who wish to be able to personalize and control precisely how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the website that you build will have a great foundation to make it load fast.
Since Of that, those who build WordPress websites for a living love GeneratePress. They will normally pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of site.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Combination If…
…you Want something that will instantly appear perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you know you want to create a fashion blog, you might be happier picking out a market theme that is developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones if you first install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you’ll most likely will need to go in and customize things. And though the substantial advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, especially casual users, don’t like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the specific features that clarify why GeneratePress is indeed common.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Past Performance, another place where GeneratePress does well is its customization options.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, and this is convenient as you’ll be able to see all of the changes that you make in real time.
The Free version of GeneratePress provides you adequate possibilities, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you will be able to customize nearly all about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Design area, you can configure detailed settings to yourown:
- Header — you can move your header round and alter its own styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can utilize one or two sidebars
- Blog post design — such as featured image size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to include
Similarly, That the Typography area lets you control the font for every single element on your site, such as buttons:
And You also receive a thorough region to control the colour of every single element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will provide you much more customization choices from the WordPress Customizer than most other themes. This amount of detail might be a little overwhelming if you are a beginner. But as soon as you realize the way the preferences come together, you’ll have complete control over how your site looks.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Across All of its attributes, GeneratePress consistently has a focus on exceptional performance and clean code. The whole motif is less than 30 kB, and it will be about as little as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress topics are still 200+ kB. And some badly coded themes can even surpass 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also does not have any code dependencies, which helps you avoid the render blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Place That collectively, and you get a superfast-loading motif. How fast? To give you an idea, I ran a little test.
First, I set up an empty website using a random popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After testing its functionality with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That’s Not bad in any way! However, GeneratePress can perform.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on the exact same test site without altering anything else. Here is how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% fewer
If You do the exact same test with different topics, you are going to continue to see that GeneratePress is among those fastest-loading WordPress themes in life. Structurepress Theme
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other helpful features such as:
- Elements — a unique feature that lets you create custom hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a unique page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is sort of like lightweight page construction. It lets you create different”sections” on a page, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular interface where you could pick and choose exactly which characteristics you would like to trigger.
That Way, you don’t have to slow down your site for a feature which you’re never going to use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Site
In The last, you needed to build GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas no matter what, which left the theme difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, though, the developer added a new Website Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users that allows you easily import any among those 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click a couple buttons to import a demo site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Detailed Control Over Every Piece Of Content
With Most topics, each post and page will use the same settings for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — however you do not have very much control past that.
GeneratePress Changes that by providing you a brand new Design meta name box for each and every post and page:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (like changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to utilize
- Disable certain elements, such as your header, navigation menu, article featured picture, article title, or footer
- Produce a special”container” for your page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you are using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you’re in a position to produce the correct baseline for your own page builder design, making it easy to create custom content as needed. Structurepress Theme
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress motif is available for free at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re seriously interested in utilizing GeneratePress, I feel you should buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what makes the theme so elastic. The free version doesn’t give you nearly as many configurations in the WordPress Customizer. And you will also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium is also still quite reasonably priced. It costs just $39.95, and that gives you use on unlimited sites. You will also get a 40% discount if you want to renew to continue receiving support and upgrades following the initial year (you can, obviously, continue using GeneratePress after the initial year without renewing — you just won’t get any more upgrades ).
When You believe that the normal premium WordPress theme will often cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic value.
As I said, I don’t think GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You want a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by buying a theme that satisfies your requirements for your niche from day one.
However, If you are ready to spend some time changing settings, GeneratePress’ style controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any type of WordPress website. Or, you might even have the ability to find a starter website that fulfills your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It is one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes you will find. So if you’re looking for the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s base is a good decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, you shouldn’t have any problem making your site load in under one second. Structurepress Theme
