Intro Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress
Over the past ten years, I have used a great deal of different WordPress topics and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I was utilizing MyThemeShop, that was pretty excellent. But I still had to perform a great deal of customization to make it perform and work how I wanted it to. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s by far the best WordPress theme I have discovered in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am now moving all my websites to GeneratePress. I will enter exactly why in my in-depth GeneratePress review under. And if you are wondering, yes I’ve tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi as well as many other lightweight and heavier multicolored themes. Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress

GeneratePress Review
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I’ve actually seen it for years in the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I’m pretty picky when it comes to web performance, so I tend to ignore everything from the repository. Typically because a great deal of things on there isn’t that great, or not supported for long. However, in this case, this was a mistake. The theme currently has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ busy matches, with over 500 5-star ratings. So obviously Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Really set up the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking exactly how I was imagining a theme should get the job done. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at some of the features. I’m going to be covering the superior version of the theme, since it’s worth very penny. In fact, Tom, if you ever read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Features
Super lightweight and fast. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you do not need running. This is only one of the greatest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all of the devices.
Schema built-in, for greater outcomes in SERPs.
Dramatic integration with all the WordPress Customizer. I haven’t been a lover of the customizer in the past, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser service back to IE8.
Additionally, it works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these really are a great combo. I have also read that people using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Resumes prepared.
Font wonderful built-in.
A lot of hooks and filters that make it great for programmers.
Great active support from the developer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have great documentation on their site, the theme has been around long enough that everything I wholeheartedly throughout the setup procedure was found within a couple of seconds in their own forum.
Diving Into GeneratePress
Now it is Time to the fun part! I always test a brand new theme right out of the box with no customizations to just see how fast the foundation is. This tells me a great deal of what I can expect by the time I add everything for this. Running the inventory GeneratePress WordPress theme on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was quite impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to produce a whole lot of big files, but this is not the situation. You may tell that Tom literally worked hard on making sure every file loaded in GeneratePress is as little as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the amount of files isn’t as important. But the dimensions is! Take a peek at some of the center GeneratePress files under:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a developer that cares about performance! And I’ve Seen exactly the same during each of the premium add-ons. They are as small as possible get them. In reality, Font Awesome is most likely the biggest file contained. And that isn’t even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving around the cornerwe can expect this to secure smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I’d call a modular layout. You can activate/deactivate anything you aren’t using to ensure they don’t load on your website. As the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built, I felt at home with this. Everything should be designed this way.
If You’re interested, I am using the next add-ons on this site:
Website
Shades
Copyright
Hooks
Page Header
Spacing
Typography
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best characteristics of GeneratePress is I no more have to use a young child motif . This makes my life much easier. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I can literally update my GeneratePress theme this exact moment and not lose a single customization. The hooks add-on definitely helps make this possible. It allows you to incorporate custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post you have a lot of options. You can change the sidebar layout and the footer widgets.
You Can quickly swap a page involving the default to a complete width page, in addition to disable components.
The WordPress customizer options is where GeneratePress really shines! Bear in mind, a lot of these options are enabled from the superior add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we would be here daily. However, allow me to show you couple which really come in handy.
Responsive Columns
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be made by the same programmer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to incorporate responsive columns into any page or post. Features include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid thickness
Add custom courses
Insert custom inline styles
Equal height columns
This is An example under:
You May Want to Also catch his incredible WP Show Posts plugin also. See my featured articles on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to display posts from a particular”featured” category. You can also have it show past modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works terrific.

Sections Add-on
The Segments add-in in the premium edition of GeneratePress allows you to perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Think of it like a webpage builder without the bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not only for blogs! I’m in fact using GeneratePress for our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks nothing like a blog.
Speed Tests
For those Of those that are regular readers, you likely did not even notice that I changed the whole motif that forces woorkup.com. It only took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme which I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was already pretty fast, but I invested a great deal of time customizing it. In reality, I have gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to publish all of my customizations. My advice today is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress theme I was able to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And keep in mind, I do not have a child theme. All the customizations were made with the awesome GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I have running on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he could create a copy of woorkup to your new GeneratePress blog library. I’m happy to let you know that now you can install my woorkup motif on your GeneratePress website with just a single click! It’s called the Marketer theme. Get started with a fantastic blog layout instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over my personal website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a motif from Array Themes. It is a fairly basic minimum site, since I do not use it for much. As you can see it loaded pretty fast.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to duplicate the entire look 100 percent in GeneratePress in under one hour. And since you can see it loads faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a couple plugins which weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum site, as we simply use it for our LLC. Since you can see it already loaded pretty fast. Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to again move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under an hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my total page burden 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I’m moving over all of my sites to it (which includes some EDD e-commerce sites). Once I’ve got my 9 sites all running in GP without any child topics, my entire life is going to be a breeze! The developer has revived my faith in multi-purpose subjects , and that when done the correct way, can actually perform faster.
And The best thing is, I finally have a thousand more choices to choose from than I did earlier.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal alternative for performance-focused users who wish to have the ability to customize and control exactly how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the site that you build will have a great foundation to make it load quickly.
Since Of that, people who build WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll normally pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any type of website.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Combination If…
…you Need something which will immediately look perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you realize you want to produce a style blog, you may be happier picking out a market theme that’s developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones if you initially install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you want it to, you’ll most likely need to go in and customize matters. And though the substantial advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, particularly casual users, don’t like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the particular features that clarify why GeneratePress is indeed popular.
Plenty Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Performance, another area where GeneratePress does well is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, which is convenient because you’ll have the ability to see all of the changes that you create in real time.
The Free version of GeneratePress gives you decent possibilities, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you will be able to customize nearly everything about your website.
For Example, if you go into the Layout area, you can configure comprehensive settings to yourown:
- Header — you can move your header round and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can use a Couple of sidebars
- Blog post layout — such as featured picture dimensions, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like the number of widgets to add
Similarly, The Typography area enables you to control the font to get each and every element on your website, including buttons:
And You also get a detailed area to control the colour of every single element on your site.
All Whatsoever, GeneratePress will give you a lot more customization options in the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This level of detail might be a little overwhelming if you’re a beginner. But once you realize how the settings come together, you’ll have complete control over how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Across All its attributes, GeneratePress always has a focus on exceptional performance and clean code. The entire motif is less than 30 kB, which will be about as small as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And some badly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also does not have any code dependencies, which helps you avoid the render obstructing error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Put That together, and you obtain a superfast-loading motif. How quickly? To give you an idea, I ran a small test.
First, I put up a vacant website using a random popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After testing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That is Not bad in any way! But GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on the same test site without altering anything else. Here is how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% less
If You do the exact same test with other themes, you’ll continue to find that GeneratePress is one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes in existence. Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus A Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium comes with a lot of other useful features such as:
- Elements — a exceptional feature which allows you create customized hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a unique page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is sort of like lightweight page construction. It lets you create different”sections” on a page, each with their own design and column preferences.
To Stay lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular interface where you could pick and choose what features you would like to activate.
That Way, you don’t have to slow your site down for a quality that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you needed to build GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas no matter what, which left the theme difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, though, the programmer added a new Website Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users which lets you easily import any one of the 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a couple buttons to import a demo site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Detailed Control Over Each Bit Of Content
With Most topics, every post and page will use the very same settings for the most part. You may have some custom templates or formats — but you don’t have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by providing you a brand new Layout meta name box for every single post and page:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as altering the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to use
- Disable certain components, like your header, navigation menu, post featured image, article title, or footer
- Produce a special”container” to your own page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you’re using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you’re able to produce the correct baseline for your page builder layout, making it easy to create custom content as needed. Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress
GeneratePress Pricing: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress theme can be obtained for free at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re seriously interested in using GeneratePress, I feel you need to purchase the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that is what makes the theme so flexible. The free version does not give you almost as numerous settings from the WordPress Customizer. And you will also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium is also still fairly reasonably priced. It costs just $39.95, and that gives you use on infinite websites . You’ll also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and upgrades after the first year (you can, of course, keep using GeneratePress following the first year without beating — you just won’t get any more upgrades ).
When You believe that the typical premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress offers a great price.
Summary
As I said, I don’t believe GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You want a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that fits your requirements for your niche from day one.
However, If you’re ready to spend some time changing preferences, then GeneratePress’ style controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any sort of WordPress website. Or, you may even have the ability to find a starter site that fits your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It’s one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes you will find. So if you’re looking for the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a good choice.
If You combine it with fast-loading hosting, you should have no problem making your website load in under one minute. Remove Blog Post Date Generatepress
