Introduction Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
Within the past 10 decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress topics and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I was using MyThemeShop, that was fairly good. But I had to perform a great deal of customization to make it perform and work the way I needed it to. A few weeks ago I decided to provide GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is by far the best WordPress theme I’ve discovered in 10 years. I was dismissed and am moving all my sites to GeneratePress. I will go into precisely why in my in-depth GeneratePress review below. And if you’re wondering, yes I’ve attempted Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi as well as many other lightweight and heavier multicolored themes. Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a developer from Canada. I’ve actually seen it for years in the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I am pretty picky when it comes to web performance, so I have a tendency to ignore everything from the repository. Typically because a lot of things on there isn’t that great, or not encouraged for long. Nonetheless, in this case, this was a mistake. The motif currently has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ active matches, with over 500 5-star ratings. So obviously Tom is doing something right here.
I Really installed the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking precisely how I was envisioning a theme should work. And I will go into that more below, but let us first look at a number of the features. I will be covering the premium edition of the subject, because it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you ever read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, java on me.
Super lightweight and fast. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t want running. This is one of the greatest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all devices.
Schema built-in, for greater results in SERPs.
Impressive integration using the WordPress Customizer. I haven’t been a lover of this customizer previously, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with all popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with all the popular fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these are a great combo. I have also read that people using Beaver Builder have had success.
Font wonderful built-in.
A lot of filters and hooks which make it great for programmers.
Great active service from the developer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have great documentation on their site, the theme has existed long enough that everything I Googled during the setup process was found within a couple of seconds from their forum.
Diving Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time for the fun part! I always test a new theme right from the box with no customizations to just see how quickly the base is. This tells me a lot of what I could expect by the time I add everything for this. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to produce a whole lot of big files, but that is not the case. You can tell that Tom literally worked hard on ensuring that every file packed in GeneratePress is as little as possible. With HTTP/2, the number of documents is not as important. But the dimensions is! Take a peek at some of the core GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
That is a developer that cares about functionality! And I’ve Seen the same throughout all the premium add-ons. They’re as small as possible get them. In reality, Font Awesome is most likely the largest file contained. And that isn’t even his. With Font Awesome 5 coming around the corner, we could expect this to secure smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate anything you aren’t using to guarantee they don’t load on your site. As the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built-in, I felt right at home for this. Everything should be designed this way.
If You are interested, I am using the following add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is I no more have to use a young child theme. This makes my life so much easier. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I will literally upgrade my GeneratePress motif this exact moment rather than lose a single customization. The hooks add-on definitely can help make it possible. It allows you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post you have a lot of options. You can alter the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page between the default to a full width page, as well as disable components.
The WordPress customizer options is where GeneratePress really shines! Bear in mind, lots of these options are enabled by the superior add-ons. I can not show you everything, otherwise, we would be here all day. However, allow me to show you few which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be made by precisely the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to add responsive columns into any page or article. Characteristics include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid width
Insert Customized classes
Add custom inline styles
Equal height columns
Here is An example under:
You might want to Also grab his amazing WP Show Posts plugin too. View my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to display posts from a particular”featured” category. You can also get it show past modified/updated articles, recent articles, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works terrific.
The Segments add-in in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you perform all kinds of things concerning design. Consider it like a webpage builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not just for blogs! I’m in fact utilizing GeneratePress to our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) that is running Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to look it over. However, as you can see below, it looks nothing like a blog.
For those Of those who are regular readers, you likely didn’t even notice I changed the entire motif that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme that I had spent annually customizing. Here is a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop theme was already pretty quickly, but I invested a great deal of time customizing it. In reality, I have gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to publish all my customizations. My advice today is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress motif I managed to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child theme. Each of the customizations were made using the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I have working on woorkup? You’re in luck. Tom asked if he could create a replica of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I am happy to allow you to know that now you can put in my woorkup theme in your own GeneratePress website with just a click! It’s known as the Marketer theme. Get started using a fantastic blog layout immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over my personal site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a motif from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimal website, as I don’t use it to get much. Since you can see it loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to duplicate the whole look 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to eliminate a couple plugins which weren’t needed because of GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over our organization website, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimum website, as we just use it for our LLC. As you can see it loaded pretty quickly. Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to again move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under one hour. And as you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to eliminate a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can not express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I’m moving over all my sites for this (which comprises some EDD e-commerce sites). After I’ve got my 9 websites all running in GP without any child topics, my entire life is going to be a breeze! The developer has restored my faith in multi-purpose subjects , which when done the right way, can actually perform faster.
And The best thing isI finally have a thousand more choices to choose from than I did earlier.
What GeneratePress Is Good For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal option for performance-focused users who wish to be able to personalize and control precisely how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress perform pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the site that you build will have a great foundation to make it load quickly.
Since Of that, those who assemble WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They will typically pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any type of website.
However GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Combination If…
…you Need something which will immediately appear perfect from the box.
For Example, if you know you wish to produce a style blog, you might be happier choosing a market theme that’s developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a lot simpler to use, as a result of its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones if you first install it.
So To create GeneratePress look how you want it to, you’ll most likely need to go in and personalize things. And while the substantial advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, especially casual users, do not like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the specific characteristics that clarify why GeneratePress is so common.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Past Performance, another area where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization options.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, and this is convenient because you will be able to see all of the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress provides you decent possibilities, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you will be able to customize pretty much all about your website.
For Example, if you go into the Layout area, you may configure comprehensive settings for your:
- Header — you can move your header round and alter its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — such as featured image dimensions, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to include
Similarly, That the Typography area lets you control the font for every single element on your site, including buttons:
And You also get a detailed region to control the color of each and every element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will provide you a lot more customization options from the WordPress Customizer than most other themes. This level of detail might be a little overwhelming if you’re a newcomer. But once you understand how the preferences come together, you will have complete control on how your website appears.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Across All its features, GeneratePress consistently includes a focus on excellent performance and tidy code. The entire motif is less than 30 kB, which is about as small as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress topics are still 200+ kB. And a few poorly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also does not have any code dependencies, which helps you avoid the leave obstructing error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Place That together, and you get a superfast-loading motif. How fast? To give you a sense, I ran a little test.
First, I put up a vacant site using a haphazard popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After testing its functionality with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance tier of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That’s Not bad at all! However, GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on the same test website without altering anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress did:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% less
If You do the exact same test with other themes, you’ll continue to find that GeneratePress is one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes in existence. Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Past Giving you more style controls from the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium comes with a lot of other helpful features such as:
- Elements — a exceptional feature that allows you create custom hooks, page headers, or layout templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a unique page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — that is kind of like lightweight page building. It permits you to create separate”sections” on a page, each with their own design and column settings.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular port where you could pick and choose what characteristics you want to activate.
That Way, you do not need to slow down your site for a quality that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The last, you needed to construct GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas no matter what, which made the motif difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, however, the developer added a new Site Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users which allows you easily import any among those 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them directly from the WordPress dashboard.
Yes this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a few buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Comprehensive Control Over Every Bit Of Content
With Most themes, every page and post will use the very same configurations for the most part. You may have some custom formats or templates — but you do not have very much control past that.
GeneratePress Changes that by providing you a brand new Design meta name box for every single page and post:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as altering the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to use
- Disable certain elements, such as your header, navigation menu, post featured image, post title, or footer
- Create a special”container” to your page builder
Where These controls would be the most useful is if you’re using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you are able to produce the proper baseline for your page builder layout, which makes it easy to create custom articles as needed. Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress theme is available at no cost at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re serious about utilizing GeneratePress, I believe you need to purchase the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what produces the theme so elastic. The free version does not give you nearly as numerous configurations in the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still quite affordable. It costs just $39.95, which provides you use on unlimited websites . You’ll also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and updates after the initial year (you can, obviously, continue using GeneratePress after the first year without renewing — you won’t receive any more upgrades ).
When You consider the normal premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic price.
As I said, I do not think GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You desire a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that satisfies your requirements for your market from day one.
But If you are willing to spend time altering preferences, then GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any sort of WordPress website. Or, you might even be able to find a starter website that fulfills your needs to save a little time.
Additionally, It is one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes you will locate. Therefore, if you’re looking for the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a good decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty making your site load in under one second. Generatepress Remove Woocommerce Sidebar
