Background Generatepress Remove Navigation
Over the previous 10 decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress themes and have been really disappointed. Up till recently, I was utilizing MyThemeShop, which was pretty excellent. However, I still had to perform a great deal of customization to make it perform and operate the way I wanted it to. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is by far the finest WordPress theme I have discovered in 10 years. I had been blown away and am now moving all of my websites to GeneratePress. I will go into precisely why in my comprehensive GeneratePress review below. And if you’re wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X motif, Divi in addition to several other lightweight and heavier multicolored themes. Generatepress Remove Navigation
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I’ve really seen it for many years in the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I’m pretty picky when it comes to web performance, and so I have a tendency to ignore everything in the repository. Typically because a great deal of stuff on there isn’t that good, or not encouraged for long. Nonetheless, in this circumstance, this was a mistake. The motif now has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ active installs, with over 500 5-star evaluations. So obviously Tom is doing something right here.
I Actually set up the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the developer was thinking exactly how I was envisioning a theme should work. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at some of the qualities. I will be covering the superior edition of the subject, since it’s worth . In fact, Tom, if you ever read this and so are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you do not want running. This is only one of the biggest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all devices.
Schema built-in, for greater results in SERPs.
Impressive integration using all the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a fan of this customizer previously, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with all popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser support back to IE8.
Additionally, it works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these are a great combo. I’ve also read that individuals using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font wonderful built in.
A lot of hooks and filters that make it good for programmers.
Great active support from the developer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also incredible. Besides have great documentation on their website, the theme has existed long enough that what I Googled during the setup procedure was found inside a couple of seconds in their own forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it is Time to the fun part! I test a new theme right from the box with no customizations to see how quickly the foundation is. This tells me a great deal of what I can expect by the time that I add everything for this. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to produce a lot of big files, but that isn’t the case. You may tell that Tom actually worked hard on making sure that every record packed in GeneratePress is as little as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the number of documents isn’t as significant. But the dimensions is! Take a look at some of the center GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
That is a programmer that cares about performance! And I have Seen exactly the same during each the premium add-ons. They are literally as small as possible get them. In reality, Font Awesome is probably the biggest file contained. And that isn’t even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving around the corner, we could anticipate this to secure smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular design. It is possible to activate/deactivate anything you aren’t using to guarantee they don’t load on your site. As the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin that has a script manager built, I felt at home with this. Everything should be made this way.
If You’re interested, I’m using the following add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best characteristics of GeneratePress is that I no longer have to use a Child theme. This makes my life much simpler. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I will literally update my GeneratePress motif this exact minute rather than shed one customization. The hooks add-on definitely helps make this possible. It allows you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress site. Generatepress Remove Navigation
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post you have a great deal of alternatives. You can alter the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page between the default option to a complete width page, as well as disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is where GeneratePress really shines! Bear in mind, lots of these choices are enabled by the premium add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we would be here all day. However, let me show you few which really come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be created by precisely the same developer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super simple way to incorporate responsive columns into any page or article. Features include:
Desktop grid thickness
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid width
Add custom classes
Insert custom inline designs
Equal height columns
Here is An example below:
You might want to Also catch his amazing WP Show Posts plugin too. View my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a specific”featured” category. You might also have it show past modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works terrific.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress allows you to perform all kinds of things concerning design. Consider it like a page builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not just for blogs! I am in fact using GeneratePress to our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) that is running Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to look it over. However, as you can see below, it looks nothing like a blog.
For all those Of you who are regular readers, you likely did not even notice I changed the whole theme that forces woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme which I had spent annually customizing. Here is a comparison under.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My old MyThemeShop motif was already pretty quickly, but I invested a great deal of time scrutinizing it. In fact, I’ve gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to print all my customizations. My advice today is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress motif I was able to attain faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a kid motif. Each of the customizations were made using the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve working on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he can make a copy of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I am pleased to allow you to know that you can now put in my woorkup theme in your GeneratePress site with just a click! It’s known as the Marketer motif. Get started using a fantastic blog design immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over my private website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimal website, since I do not use it for much. Since you can see it already loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to replicate the entire look 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a couple plugins that weren’t needed because of GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization website, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum site, as we just use it for our LLC. As you can see it loaded pretty quickly. Generatepress Remove Navigation
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under an hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my total page burden 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I’m moving over all my websites to it (which includes several EDD e-commerce websites ). Once I have my 9 websites all running in GP with no child topics, my life is going to be a breeze! The developer has revived my faith in multi-purpose themes, and that when done the right way, can actually perform faster.
And The best news isI finally have a thousand more choices to choose from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal alternative for performance-focused users who want to be able to personalize and control precisely how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress perform pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the website that you build will have a great foundation to make it load quickly.
Because Of that, people who assemble WordPress websites for a living love GeneratePress. They will typically pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any kind of site.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Combination If…
…you Need something which will immediately look perfect from the box.
For Example, if you know you want to produce a style blog, you may be happier choosing a market theme that is developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
While GeneratePress is becoming a lot easier to use, as a result of its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still looks very barebones if you initially install it.
So To create GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you’ll most likely will need to go in and customize things. And though the significant advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, many users, particularly casual users, don’t like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the specific features that explain why GeneratePress is indeed popular.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another area where GeneratePress does well is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, and this can be convenient as you’ll be able to see all the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress provides you adequate options, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you will be able to customize pretty much all about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Design region, you can configure comprehensive settings to your:
- Header — you can move your header round and alter its own styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, including sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — like featured picture dimensions, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to add
Likewise, That the Typography place lets you control the font to get every single element on your website, including buttons:
And You also receive a thorough area to control the color of every single element on your website.
All In all, GeneratePress will give you much more customization options in the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This amount of detail might be a bit overwhelming if you are a newcomer. But as soon as you understand the way the preferences come together, you will have complete control over how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Around All of its attributes, GeneratePress always includes a focus on exceptional performance and tidy code. The whole theme is less than 30 kB, which will be about as little as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress topics are still 200+ kB. And some badly coded themes can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which will help you avoid the leave blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Place That together, and you obtain a superfast-loading theme. How quickly? To give you a sense, I conducted a small test.
First, I set up an empty website utilizing a random popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its functionality with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance tier of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That’s Not bad in any way! However, GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on the exact same test website without changing anything else. Here is how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% less
If You do the exact same test with different topics, you’ll continue to see that GeneratePress is one of those fastest-loading WordPress topics in life. Generatepress Remove Navigation
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Beyond Giving you more style controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features such as:
- Elements — a unique feature that lets you create customized hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a unique page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is sort of like lightweight page construction. It lets you create different”sections” on a webpage, each with their own layout and column settings.
To Stay lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular port where you can select and choose what characteristics you would like to trigger.
That Way, you do not need to slow your site down for a quality that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you needed to build GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas no matter what, which made the theme difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, however, the developer added a new Website Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users which allows you easily import any among those 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them directly from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a few buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Comprehensive Control Over Each Bit Of Content
With Most topics, every page and post will use the same configurations for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — but you do not have very much control past that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a brand new Design meta name box for every single post and page:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (like altering the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to utilize
- Disable certain components, such as your header, navigation menu, article featured image, post title, or footer
- Produce a special”container” for your page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you’re using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain components, you’re in a position to create the correct baseline for your page builder layout, making it easy to create custom content as needed. Generatepress Remove Navigation
GeneratePress Replies: Cheap And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress motif is available at no cost at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re serious about using GeneratePress, I believe you need to buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what produces the theme so flexible. The free version doesn’t give you nearly as many configurations in the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium is also still fairly reasonably priced. It costs only $39.95, and that gives you use on unlimited sites. You’ll also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and upgrades after the first year (you can, of course, continue using GeneratePress following the initial year without beating — you won’t get any more updates).
When You consider that the normal premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic price.
As I said, I don’t believe GeneratePress is for everyone.
If You desire a niche-specific theme, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that fits your requirements for your market out of day one.
However, If you’re willing to spend time changing settings, GeneratePress’ style controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any type of WordPress website. Or, you may even have the ability to find a starter site that fits your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It’s one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes you will locate. So if you’re looking for the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a great decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, you should have no difficulty making your website load in under one minute. Generatepress Remove Navigation
