Introduction Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
Over the previous ten decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress topics and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I was utilizing MyThemeShop, that was pretty good. However, I had to do a lot of customization to make it perform and work how I needed it to. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s by far the best WordPress theme I’ve found in 10 years. I was dismissed and am now moving all of my sites to GeneratePress. I will enter precisely why in my in-depth GeneratePress review below. And if you are wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi in addition to many other lightweight and heavier multicolored themes. Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I have really seen it for years from the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I am pretty picky when it comes to web performance, and so I tend to ignore everything in the repository. Typically because a lot of stuff on there is not that good, or not encouraged for long. However, in this circumstance, that was a mistake. The motif currently has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ active installs, with over 500 5-star ratings. So obviously Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Actually set up the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the developer was thinking precisely how I was imagining a theme should get the job done. And I’ll go into that more below, but let’s first look at a number of the features. I’m going to be covering the premium edition of the subject, since it’s worth very penny. In fact, Tom, if you read this and are seeing Scottsdale, Arizona, java on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t need running. This is only one of the biggest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks great across all devices.
Schema built-in, for better results in SERPs.
Dramatic integration with the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a lover of this customizer previously, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Fantastic browser support back to IE8.
Additionally, it works great with the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these really are a great combo. I’ve also read that individuals using Beaver Builder have had success.
Font wonderful built-in.
A lot of filters and hooks that make it great for developers.
Great active service from the developer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also incredible. Besides have great documentation on their site, the theme has been around long enough that what I Googled during the setup process was found within a few seconds from their forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time for the fun part! I test a brand new theme right out of the box with no customizations to see how quickly the foundation is. This tells me a lot of what I could expect by the time that I add everything for this. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was quite impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to produce a whole lot of big files, but this is not the case. You can tell that Tom literally worked hard on making sure that every record packed in GeneratePress is as little as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the amount of documents is not as significant. However, the size is! Have a look at some of the center GeneratePress files under:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a developer that cares about functionality! And I’ve Seen exactly the same throughout each the premium add-ons. They’re literally as small as possible get them. In reality, Font Awesome is probably the biggest file contained. And that is not even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving around the corner, we can expect that to get smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are setup in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate whatever you aren’t using to ensure they do not load on your website. As the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built-in, I felt right at home for this. Everything should be made this way.
If You’re interested, I’m using the following add-ons on this website:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is I no longer have to use a young child theme. This makes my life so much simpler. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I can literally update my GeneratePress motif this exact minute and not lose one customization. The hooks add-on definitely helps make it possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP everywhere throughout your WordPress site. Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a lot of alternatives. You are able to change the sidebar layout and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page involving the default to a complete width page, in addition to disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is really where GeneratePress really shines! Bear in mind, lots of these choices are permitted from the premium add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we’d be here daily. However, allow me to show you few which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also created by the exact same developer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to incorporate responsive columns into any page or post. Features include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid width
Add custom courses
Add custom inline designs
Equal height columns
This is An example below:
You May Want to Also grab his incredible WP Display Posts plugin also. View my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a specific”featured” category. You might also have it show last modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works great.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you perform all sorts of things concerning design. Consider it like a webpage builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not just for blogs! I am in fact using GeneratePress to our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) that is running Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks like a site.
For those Of those that are regular readers, you probably did not even notice that I changed the entire theme that powers woorkup.com. It only took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme that I had spent a year customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was already pretty quickly, but I spent a lot of time customizing it. In fact, I’ve gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to publish all my customizations. My advice today is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress motif I was able to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child motif. All the customizations were made with the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve working on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he could make a replica of woorkup to your new GeneratePress blog library. I am happy to allow you to know that now you can install my woorkup motif on your GeneratePress website with only a single click! It’s known as the Marketer theme. Get started using a great blog design instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved within my personal website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a motif from Array Themes. It is a fairly basic minimum site, as I don’t use it to get much. As you can see it already loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to replicate the entire look 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And since you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to eliminate a couple plugins which weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a motif from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimum site, as we simply use it to our LLC. Since you can see it loaded pretty quickly. Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to move everything over and get it looking just how I needed it in under an hour. And since you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I am moving over all of my websites for this (which comprises some EDD e-commerce websites ). Once I’ve got my 9 sites all running in GP without any child themes, my life is going to be a breeze! The programmer has revived my faith in multi-purpose subjects , which when done the correct way, can actually perform faster.
And The best thing is, I finally have a thousand more choices to choose from than I did earlier.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the perfect option for performance-focused users who wish to have the ability to customize and control exactly how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the website that you build will have a fantastic foundation to make it load fast.
Since Of that, those who assemble WordPress websites for a living love GeneratePress. They will typically pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of website.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Combination If…
…you Want something that will instantly look perfect from the box.
For Example, if you realize you wish to produce a fashion blog, you might be happier picking out a niche theme that’s developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a lot easier to use, as a result of its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still looks very barebones if you initially install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you will most likely will need to go in and customize things. And though the substantial advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, particularly casual users, don’t like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are some of the particular characteristics that explain why GeneratePress is so popular.
Plenty Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another area where GeneratePress does well is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, which is convenient because you will have the ability to see all of the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress gives you adequate options, but should you own GeneratePress Premium, you’ll have the ability to customize nearly all about your site.
For Example, if you go into the Design area, you may configure detailed settings for your:
- Header — you can move your header around and alter its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post design — such as featured image size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to include
Similarly, That the Typography place enables you to control the font for every single element on your site, such as buttons:
And You also receive a detailed area to control the colour of every single element on your website.
All In all, GeneratePress will provide you a lot more customization options from the WordPress Customizer compared to most other themes. This amount of detail might be a little overwhelming if you are a beginner. But as soon as you realize the way the settings come together, you will have full control on how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Across All its attributes, GeneratePress consistently includes a focus on excellent performance and tidy code. The whole theme is less than 30 kB, and it is about as small as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And some poorly coded topics can even surpass 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which will help you avoid the leave blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Put That together, and you obtain a superfast-loading motif. How fast? To give you a sense, I ran a small test.
First, I put up an empty website utilizing a haphazard popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That is Not bad in any way! But GeneratePress can perform.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on exactly the exact same test site without changing anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% fewer
If You perform the exact same test with different themes, you’ll continue to see that GeneratePress is among those fastest-loading WordPress topics in existence. Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Past Giving you more style controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature that allows you create customized hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a exceptional page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — that is sort of like lightweight page construction. It permits you to create separate”sections” on a page, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular port where you can select and choose exactly which features you want to trigger.
That Way, you do not have to slow your site down for a quality that you’re never going to use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you had to build GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas regardless of what, which left the theme difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, however, the developer added a fresh Website Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users that lets you easily import any among those 25+ pre-built demonstration websites .
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a few buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Detailed Control Over Each Bit Of Content
With Most topics, every page and post will use the very same configurations for the most part. You may have some custom templates or formats — but you don’t have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a new Design meta box for each and every page and post:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to utilize
- Disable certain elements, like your header, navigation menu, article featured picture, article title, or footer
- Produce a special”container” for your own page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you are using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you are in a position to produce the proper baseline for your own page builder design, which makes it easy to create custom content as needed. Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
GeneratePress Pricing: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress theme is available at no cost at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re seriously interested in using GeneratePress, I feel you should purchase the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what produces the theme so flexible. The free version does not give you almost as many settings in the WordPress Customizer. And you will also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still fairly reasonably priced. It costs only $39.95, which provides you use on unlimited websites . You’ll also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to keep on receiving support and updates following the initial year (you can, of course, keep using GeneratePress after the initial year without renewing — you won’t receive any more upgrades ).
When You believe the typical premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a great value.
As I said, I don’t think GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You want a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that satisfies your requirements for your market from day one.
But If you’re willing to spend time altering preferences, then GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any type of WordPress website. Or, you might even have the ability to find a starter website that fulfills your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It’s one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes that you will find. Therefore, if you’re looking for the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a great decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, you should have no problem making your website load in under one minute. Generatepress Navigation Logo Size
