Introduction Generatepress Google Fonts
Within the past ten decades, I have used a great deal of different WordPress themes and have been very disappointed. Up until recently, I had been using MyThemeShop, which was fairly good. But I had to perform a lot of customization to make it do and operate how I needed it to. A couple weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s by far the finest WordPress theme I’ve discovered in 10 years. I was dismissed and am now moving all of my sites to GeneratePress. I’ll go into exactly why in my comprehensive GeneratePress review under. And if you are wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi in addition to several other lightweight and thicker multi-purpose themes. Generatepress Google Fonts

GeneratePress Review
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I’ve actually seen it for years in the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I’m pretty picky when it comes to web performance, so I tend to ignore everything in the repository. Typically because a lot of stuff on there isn’t that great, or not encouraged for long. However, in this circumstance, that was a mistake. The motif currently has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ busy matches, with over 500 5-star ratings. So clearly Tom is doing something right here.
I Really installed the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking exactly how I was imagining a theme should get the job done. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at some of the qualities. I will be covering the superior version of the subject, because it’s worth . In fact, Tom, if you ever read this and are seeing Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Characteristics
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you do not want running. This is one of the greatest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all of the devices.
Schema built-in, for greater results in SERPs.
Impressive integration with the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a fan of the customizer previously, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser support back to IE8.
It also works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these really are a great combo. I have also read that people using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Translation ready.
Font awesome built in.
Tons of hooks and filters which make it great for developers.
Excellent active support from the programmer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be incredible. Besides have great documentation on their site, the subject has been around long enough that everything I wholeheartedly during the setup procedure was found inside a couple of seconds in their forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time to the fun part! I test a brand new theme right from the box with no customizations to see how quickly the foundation is. This tells me a lot of what I could expect by the time I add everything to it. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress theme on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to produce a whole lot of big files, but this is not the situation. You may tell that Tom literally worked hard on ensuring every record loaded in GeneratePress is as little as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the number of documents is not as significant. However, the size is! Have a peek at a few of the center GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a programmer that cares about performance! And I have Seen the same during all the premium add-ons. They are as small as you can possibly get them. In reality, Font Awesome is probably the biggest file included. And that is not even his. With Font Awesome 5 coming around the cornerwe can expect that to get smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate whatever you aren’t using to guarantee they don’t load on your website. Since the co-developer of this perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built, I felt at home for this. Everything should be designed this way.
If You are interested, I’m using the following add-ons on this site:
Blog
Colors
Copyright
Hooks
Page Header
Spacing
Typography
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is that I no more have to use a young child motif . This makes my life much simpler. No more editing my functions.php or header.php documents. I can literally upgrade my GeneratePress theme this exact minute rather than lose one customization. The hooks add-on certainly can help make this possible. It permits you to incorporate custom code/PHP everywhere throughout your WordPress website. Generatepress Google Fonts
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a great deal of alternatives. You are able to alter the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page involving the default option to a complete width page, as well as disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is really where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, lots of these choices are permitted by the premium add-ons. I can not show you everything, otherwise, we’d be here all day. But allow me to show you couple which really come in handy.
Responsive Columns
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be made by precisely the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super easy way to add responsive columns into any page or article. Features include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid width
Add Customized classes
Add custom inline designs
Equal height columns
This is An example below:
You May Want to Also grab his amazing WP Show Posts plugin also. View my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That is using the WP Show Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a specific”featured” category. You can also have it show past modified/updated articles, recent articles, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works terrific.

Sections Add-on
The Segments add-in in the premium edition of GeneratePress allows you to perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Consider it like a page builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not just for blogs! I’m in fact using GeneratePress to our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks nothing like a site.
Speed Tests
For all those Of those who are regular readers, you probably did not even notice that I changed the whole motif that forces woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme which I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison under.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was pretty quickly, but I invested a lot of time scrutinizing it. In fact, I’ve gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to publish all of my customizations. My advice now is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress theme I was able to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child theme. All the customizations were made with the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve running on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he could make a replica of woorkup to your brand new GeneratePress blog library. I’m pleased to allow you to know that you can now install my woorkup motif in your GeneratePress website with just a single click! It’s known as the Marketer theme. Get started with a great blog layout instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved within my personal website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It is a fairly basic minimum site, as I don’t use it for much. Since you can see it loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to replicate the whole look 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And since you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a couple plugins which weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It is a fairly basic minimum website, as we just use it for our LLC. As you can see it loaded pretty quickly. Generatepress Google Fonts
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to move everything over and get it looking exactly how I needed it in under an hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was able to eliminate a total of four plugins and it dropped my total page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I’m moving over all of my sites to it (which includes several EDD e-commerce sites). After I’ve got my 9 sites all running in GP without any child themes, my life is going to be a breeze! The developer has restored my faith in multi-purpose subjects , and that when done the correct way, can actually perform faster.
And The best news isI finally have a thousand more choices to pick from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal alternative for performance-focused users that want to be able to customize and control precisely how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress perform pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the website that you build will have a fantastic foundation to make it load quickly.
Because Of that, people who build WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll normally pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any type of website.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Combination If…
…you Need something that will instantly look perfect from the box.
For Example, if you know you wish to produce a style blog, you may be happier picking out a niche theme that’s developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress is becoming a lot easier to use, as a result of its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still looks very barebones if you initially install it.
So To create GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you’ll most likely need to go in and personalize things. And though the substantial advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, particularly casual users, don’t like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are some of the particular characteristics that clarify why GeneratePress is so common.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another place where GeneratePress does well is its customization choices.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, which can be convenient as you will have the ability to see all of the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress gives you decent options, but should you have GeneratePress Premium, you will have the ability to customize nearly all about your site.
For Example, if you go in the Design region, you may configure detailed settings for yourown:
- Header — you can move your header round and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can utilize one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — such as featured image dimensions, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like the number of widgets to include
Similarly, That the Typography area lets you control the font to get each and every element on your site, such as buttons:
And You also get a thorough region to control the color of each and every element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will provide you much more customization choices in the WordPress Customizer than most other topics. This level of detail may be a bit overwhelming if you are a newcomer. But as soon as you understand the way the settings come together, you will have full control on how your site appears.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Around All of its features, GeneratePress consistently has a focus on exceptional performance and tidy code. The entire motif is less than 30 kB, which is about as small as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress topics are still 200+ kB. And some poorly coded themes can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which will help you avoid the render blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Place That collectively, and you obtain a superfast-loading motif. How fast? To give you a sense, I ran a little test.
First, I set up a vacant website using a random popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That is Not bad in any way! But GeneratePress can perform.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on the same test site without changing anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% fewer
If You do that same test with other topics, you’ll continue to see that GeneratePress is among those fastest-loading WordPress topics in existence. Generatepress Google Fonts
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus A Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature which allows you create custom hooks, page headers, or layout templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a unique page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is kind of like lightweight page building. It lets you create separate”sections” on a page, each with their own design and column settings.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular interface where you could pick and choose exactly which features you would like to trigger.
That Way, you do not have to slow down your site for a quality that you’re never going to use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Site
In The last, you had to construct GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas no matter what, which left the theme difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, though, the developer added a new Site Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users that lets you easily import any among the 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click a few buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Detailed Control Over Each Piece Of Content
With Most topics, each post and page will use the same settings for the most part. You may have some custom formats or templates — but you do not have very much control past that.
GeneratePress Changes that by providing you a new Design meta box for every single post and page:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (like altering the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to use
- Disable certain elements, like your header, navigation menu, article featured picture, article title, or footer
- Create a special”container” to your own page builder
Where These controls would be the most useful is if you’re using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you are able to create the correct baseline for your page builder design, which makes it easy to create custom articles as needed. Generatepress Google Fonts
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress theme can be obtained at no cost at WordPress.org.
Nevertheless, If you are seriously interested in utilizing GeneratePress, I believe you need to buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that is what produces the theme so flexible. The free version does not give you nearly as numerous configurations from the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium is also still fairly reasonably priced. It costs just $39.95, which provides you use on infinite sites. You’ll also get a 40% discount if you want to renew to continue receiving support and upgrades after the initial year (you can, obviously, keep using GeneratePress after the initial year without beating — you just won’t receive any more updates).
When You believe that the normal premium WordPress theme will often cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic price.
Summary
As I mentioned, I don’t believe GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You want a niche-specific theme, you can probably save time by buying a theme that satisfies your requirements for your niche from day one.
However, If you’re willing to spend some time altering settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any sort of WordPress site. Or, you might even be able to locate a starter site that fits your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It is one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes that you will find. So if you’re looking for the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a good choice.
If You combine it with fast-loading hosting, you should have no problem making your site load in under one second. Generatepress Google Fonts
