Introduction Generatepress Form Plugin
Over the past 10 decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress themes and have been very disappointed. Up until recently, I was using MyThemeShop, which was pretty excellent. But I had to perform a lot of customization to allow it to do and operate how I needed it to. A few of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is by far the best WordPress theme I’ve discovered in a decade . I had been blown away and am moving all my sites to GeneratePress. I will go into precisely why in my in-depth GeneratePress review under. And if you’re wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi in addition to many other lightweight and heavier multi-purpose themes. Generatepress Form Plugin
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I’ve actually seen it for many years from the WordPress repository. Most of you realize that I’m fairly picky when it comes to web performance, so I have a tendency to dismiss everything in the repository. Typically because a great deal of stuff on there is not that good, or not encouraged for long. However, in this case, that was a mistake. The motif currently has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ active installs, with over 500 5-star evaluations. So obviously Tom is doing something right here.
I Really installed the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking exactly how I was imagining a theme should work. And I’ll go into that more below, but let us first look at a number of the qualities. I’m going to be covering the premium edition of the theme, since it’s worth . Actually, Tom, if you ever read this and so are seeing Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t need running. This is one of the biggest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all devices.
Schema built-in, for greater outcomes in SERPs.
Dramatic integration with the WordPress Customizer. I haven’t been a fan of the customizer previously, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with all popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Fantastic browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with the popular fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these are a terrific combo. I’ve also read that people using Beaver Builder have had success.
Font wonderful built in.
Tons of filters and hooks that make it great for developers.
Great active service from the programmer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also incredible. Besides have good documentation on their site, the subject has existed long enough that everything I wholeheartedly throughout the setup procedure was found within a couple of seconds in their forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it is Time for the fun part! I test a new theme right out of the box without any customizations to just see how quickly the base is. This tells me a great deal of what I could expect by the time that I add everything for this. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to generate a lot of big files, but this is not the case. You may tell that Tom literally worked hard on making sure every file loaded in GeneratePress is as little as possible. With HTTP/2, the amount of files isn’t as important. But the size is! Take a peek at a few of the center GeneratePress files under:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
That is a programmer that cares about performance! And I’ve Seen exactly the same throughout each of the premium add-ons. They’re as small as you can possibly get them. In fact, Font Awesome is probably the largest file contained. And that isn’t even his. With Font Awesome 5 coming round the cornerwe can anticipate that to secure smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are setup in what I would call a modular layout. You can activate/deactivate whatever you are not using to guarantee they don’t load on your website. As the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built, I felt at home for this. Everything should be made this way.
If You’re interested, I’m using the next add-ons on this website:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is that I no longer have to use a Child theme. This makes my life much simpler. No longer editing my functions.php or header.php files. I can literally upgrade my GeneratePress motif this exact minute rather than lose one customization. The hooks add-on certainly helps make this possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. Generatepress Form Plugin
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a great deal of options. You can alter the sidebar layout and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page involving the default to a full width page, in addition to disable components.
The WordPress customizer choices is where GeneratePress really shines! Bear in mind, lots of these choices are enabled by the premium add-ons. I can not show you everything, otherwise, we would be here all day. However, allow me to show you few which really come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also made by the same developer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to incorporate responsive columns to any page or article. Features include:
Desktop grid thickness
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid width
Insert custom classes
Add custom inline styles
Equal height columns
This is An example below:
You might want to Also catch his incredible WP Show Posts plugin too. See my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That is using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a specific”featured” category. You might also have it show last modified/updated articles, recent articles, etc.. I am using the free version and it works terrific.
The Segments add-in in the premium version of GeneratePress allows you to perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Consider it like a page builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not only for blogs! I’m in reality utilizing GeneratePress for our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) that is operating Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to check it out. However, as you can see below, it looks like a blog.
For those Of you who are regular readers, you probably did not even notice I changed the whole motif that forces woorkup.com. It only took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif that I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was already pretty quickly, but I invested a lot of time customizing it. In fact, I’ve gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to print all my customizations. My advice today is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress theme I managed to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child motif. Each of the customizations were created with the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve running on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he can create a replica of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I’m pleased to let you know that you can now put in my woorkup motif on your own GeneratePress website with only a single click! It’s known as the Marketer motif. Get started using a fantastic blog layout instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved within my personal website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum website, since I don’t use it to get much. Since you can see it already loaded pretty fast.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to replicate the entire appearance 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And since you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I was able to eliminate a couple plugins which weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our organization website, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It is a fairly basic minimal website, as we simply use it to our LLC. Since you can see it loaded pretty fast. Generatepress Form Plugin
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to again move everything over and get it looking exactly how I needed it in under one hour. And as you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I’m moving over all my websites to it (which comprises some EDD e-commerce sites). Once I’ve got my 9 websites all running in GP without any child topics, my entire life will be a breeze! The developer has restored my faith in multi-purpose subjects , which when done the right way, can actually perform faster.
And The best news is, I now have a billion more options to choose from than I did earlier.
What GeneratePress Is Good For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal option for performance-focused users that want to have the ability to personalize and control precisely how their site looks.
You Can make GeneratePress perform pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the site that you build will have a great base to make it load fast.
Since Of that, people who assemble WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They will normally pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any type of site.
However GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Combination If…
…you Want something that will immediately appear perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you realize you wish to create a fashion blog, you might be happier picking out a market theme that’s developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
While GeneratePress has gotten a lot easier to use, as a result of its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones when you initially install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you want it to, you will most likely need to go in and customize things. And though the substantial benefit of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, especially casual users, do not like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features Which Make It Unique
Here Are some of the specific features that clarify why GeneratePress is so popular.
Plenty Of Customization Options In The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Past Performance, another area where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, and this is convenient because you’ll be able to see all of the changes that you create in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress gives you adequate possibilities, but if you own GeneratePress Premium, you’ll have the ability to customize nearly all about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Layout area, you may configure detailed settings to your:
- Header — you can move your header round and alter its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can use a Couple of sidebars
- Blog post layout — like featured picture size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to add
Likewise, That the Typography area enables you to control the font to get each and every element on your site, such as buttons:
And You also get a detailed area to control the colour of every single element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will give you a lot more customization options from the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This amount of detail may be a bit overwhelming if you’re a beginner. But as soon as you realize the way the preferences come together, you’ll have full control over how your site appears.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Around All its attributes, GeneratePress consistently includes a focus on excellent performance and clean code. The whole motif is less than 30 kB, and it will be about as little as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress topics are still 200+ kB. And some poorly coded themes can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which helps you avoid the leave obstructing error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Place That together, and you obtain a superfast-loading motif. How fast? To give you a sense, I conducted a small test.
First, I set up an empty website utilizing a haphazard popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After testing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That’s Not bad at all! However, GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on the same test site without changing anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress did:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% less
If You perform that same test with other topics, you are going to continue to see that GeneratePress is among the fastest-loading WordPress topics in existence. Generatepress Form Plugin
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Beyond Giving you more style controls from the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature that lets you create customized hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a unique page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is kind of like lightweight page construction. It lets you create separate”sections” on a webpage, each with their own layout and column settings.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular interface where you could pick and choose exactly which features you would like to trigger.
That Way, you don’t need to slow down your site for a quality that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you needed to build GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas no matter what, which made the motif difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, though, the programmer added a new Site Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users which lets you easily import any one of those 25+ pre-built demonstration websites .
You Can import them directly from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click a few buttons to import a demo site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Comprehensive Control Over Every Piece Of Content
With Most topics, every page and post will use the same configurations for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — however you don’t have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a brand new Layout meta box for every single page and post:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (like changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to use
- Disable certain components, such as your header, navigation menu, post featured image, post title, or footer
- Create a special”container” to your page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you are using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain components, you are in a position to create the correct baseline for your page builder layout, which makes it effortless to create custom articles as needed. Generatepress Form Plugin
GeneratePress Pricing: Cheap And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress theme is available at no cost at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re seriously interested in using GeneratePress, I feel you should buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that is what produces the theme so flexible. The free version doesn’t give you nearly as numerous configurations from the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still quite affordable. It costs just $39.95, which provides you use on infinite sites. You will also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to keep on receiving support and updates following the initial year (you can, obviously, keep using GeneratePress after the first year without beating — you won’t get any more updates).
When You consider that the typical premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress offers a fantastic value.
As I mentioned, I do not think GeneratePress is for everyone.
If You want a niche-specific theme, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that fits your requirements for your niche out of day one.
But If you’re ready to spend time altering preferences, then GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any type of WordPress site. Or, you may even have the ability to locate a starter website that fulfills your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It’s among the fastest-loading WordPress topics that you will locate. So if you’re seeking the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s base is a great decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, so you shouldn’t have any problem making your site load in under one second. Generatepress Form Plugin
