Introduction Generatepress Footer Bar
Over the previous ten years, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress topics and have been very disappointed. Up until recently, I had been utilizing MyThemeShop, that was fairly good. However, I had to perform a great deal of customization to allow it to do and operate how I needed it to. A few of weeks ago I decided to provide GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is undoubtedly the finest WordPress theme I have found in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am moving all my sites to GeneratePress. I will go into exactly why in my comprehensive GeneratePress review under. And if you’re wondering, yes I’ve attempted Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi as well as several other lightweight and thicker multi-purpose themes. Generatepress Footer Bar
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a developer from Canada. I’ve really seen it for years in the WordPress repository. Most of you realize that I’m fairly picky when it comes to web performance, and so I have a tendency to dismiss everything from the repository. Typically because a great deal of things on there is not that great, or not encouraged for long. Nonetheless, in this circumstance, that was a mistake. The theme now has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ active matches, with over 500 5-star ratings. So clearly Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Actually installed the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the premium version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking exactly how I was imagining a theme should get the job done. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at a number of the features. I’m going to be covering the superior version of the subject, since it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and fast. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you do not need running. This is only one of the biggest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks great across all devices.
Schema built-in, for better outcomes in SERPs.
Impressive integration with the WordPress Customizer. I haven’t been a lover of this customizer previously, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these really are a great combo. I have also read that individuals using Beaver Builder have had success.
Font awesome built-in.
Tons of filters and hooks which make it good for developers.
Great active support from the developer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have good documentation on their website, the theme has been around long enough that everything I wholeheartedly during the setup process was found inside a few seconds in their forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time for the fun part! I always test a new theme right out of the box without any customizations to see how fast the foundation is. This tells me a great deal of what I can expect by the time I add everything for this. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to generate a lot of big files, but that isn’t the situation. You can tell that Tom actually worked hard on making sure that every file packed in GeneratePress is as little as possible. With HTTP/2, the amount of documents isn’t as important. But the size is! Have a peek at a few of the center GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a developer that cares about performance! And I’ve Seen exactly the same throughout each of the premium add-ons. They are as small as you can possibly get them. In reality, Font Awesome is probably the largest file contained. And that is not even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving around the cornerwe can expect this to secure smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are setup in what I would call a modular layout. You can activate/deactivate anything you are not using to guarantee they do not load on your site. Since the co-developer of this perfmatters plugin that has a script supervisor built, I felt at home for this. Everything should be designed this way.
If You are interested, I am using the next add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is I no longer need to use a Child theme. This makes my life so much easier. No more editing my functions.php or header.php files. I will literally update my GeneratePress theme this exact moment and not shed a single customization. The hooks add-on certainly helps make this possible. It allows you to add custom code/PHP everywhere throughout your WordPress site. Generatepress Footer Bar
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post you have a lot of options. You are able to change the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can quickly swap a page between the default to a complete width page, in addition to disable elements.
The WordPress customizer choices is where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, a lot of these options are enabled by the premium add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we would be here daily. But allow me to show you few which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also made by precisely the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to add responsive columns to any page or article. Characteristics include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid thickness
Add custom courses
Insert custom inline styles
Equal height columns
This is An example under:
You might want to Also catch his amazing WP Display Posts plugin too. See my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a particular”featured” category. You can also have it show last modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works great.
The Segments add-in in the premium edition of GeneratePress allows you to perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Think of it like a page builder without the bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not just for blogs! I am in fact utilizing GeneratePress for our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to look it over. However, as you can see below, it looks like a site.
For those Of you that are regular readers, you likely didn’t even notice that I changed the entire motif that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme that I had spent a year customizing. Here is a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop theme was pretty fast, but I spent a lot of time scrutinizing it. In reality, I have gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to publish all my customizations. My advice now is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress motif I managed to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And keep in mind, I do not have a kid motif. All the customizations were created using the awesome GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve working on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he can make a replica of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I’m pleased to let you know that you can now install my woorkup theme on your GeneratePress website with only a click! It’s known as the Marketer theme. Get started using a fantastic blog design instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved within my private site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum website, as I do not use it to get much. As you can see it loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to replicate the whole appearance 100% in GeneratePress in under an hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a few plugins that weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over our organization site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimal website, as we just use it to our LLC. As you can see it loaded pretty fast. Generatepress Footer Bar
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under one hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my total page burden 2x!
I can not express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I’m moving over all my sites for this (which includes some EDD e-commerce sites). Once I’ve got my 9 websites all running in GP with no child topics, my life is going to be a breeze! The programmer has restored my faith in multi-purpose themes, which when done the correct way, can actually perform faster.
And The best news isI now have a billion more options to choose from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Good For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal option for performance-focused users who wish to be able to customize and control precisely how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the website that you build will have a fantastic foundation to make it load quickly.
Since Of that, those who assemble WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll normally pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of website.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Fit If…
…you Want something which will instantly appear perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you realize you wish to produce a fashion blog, you might be happier picking out a niche theme that is developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress is becoming a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still looks very barebones if you first install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you’ll almost certainly will need to go in and personalize things. And while the substantial advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, especially casual users, don’t like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features Which Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the particular characteristics that clarify why GeneratePress is indeed common.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another area where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization options.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, which is convenient because you will be able to see all of the changes that you create in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress provides you decent possibilities, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you’ll have the ability to customize nearly all about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Design region, you can configure detailed settings for yourown:
- Header — you can move your header around and alter its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, including sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post design — like featured picture size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — like how many widgets to include
Likewise, The Typography place enables you to control the font for every single element on your website, including buttons:
And You also get a detailed area to control the colour of every single element on your site.
All Whatsoever, GeneratePress will give you much more customization options in the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This level of detail may be a bit overwhelming if you’re a beginner. But as soon as you realize how the preferences come together, you’ll have full control over how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Quick Page Load Times
Around All of its attributes, GeneratePress consistently includes a focus on exceptional performance and tidy code. The entire motif is less than 30 kB, and it will be about as small as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And some poorly coded themes can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also does not have any code dependencies, which will help you avoid the leave obstructing error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Put That collectively, and you get a superfast-loading theme. How fast? To give you an idea, I ran a little test.
First, I set up an empty website using a haphazard popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After testing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That is Not bad at all! However, GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on exactly the same test website without altering anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% fewer
If You do the exact same test with other themes, you’ll continue to find that GeneratePress is among the fastest-loading WordPress themes in existence. Generatepress Footer Bar
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Beyond Giving you more style controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium comes with a lot of other helpful features such as:
- Elements — a unique feature which allows you create customized hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a unique page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is kind of like lightweight page building. It permits you to create different”sections” on a page, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Stay lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular port where you could pick and choose what features you would like to activate.
That Way, you don’t need to slow down your site for a quality that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The last, you needed to construct GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas regardless of what, which made the motif difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, though, the programmer added a new Website Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users which allows you easily import any among the 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a couple buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Detailed Control Over Every Piece Of Content
With Most topics, each post and page will use the same configurations for the most part. You may have some custom formats or templates — but you do not have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a new Design meta name box for every single page and post:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (like altering the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to utilize
- Disable certain components, like your header, navigation menu, article featured image, post title, or footer
- Create a special”container” for your page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you’re using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you are able to create the proper baseline for your page builder layout, making it effortless to create custom articles as needed. Generatepress Footer Bar
GeneratePress Replies: Cheap And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress theme can be obtained for free at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re serious about using GeneratePress, I believe you should buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what makes the theme so flexible. The free version doesn’t give you nearly as many configurations in the WordPress Customizer. And you will also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still quite reasonably priced. It costs only $39.95, and that provides you use on infinite sites. You’ll also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to keep on receiving support and updates following the first year (you can, of course, continue using GeneratePress following the initial year without beating — you just won’t get any more upgrades ).
When You consider that the normal premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic value.
As I mentioned, I do not think GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You desire a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by buying a theme that satisfies your needs for your market out of day one.
But If you are ready to spend some time altering settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to turn it into any sort of WordPress site. Or, you may even be able to locate a starter site that fits your needs to save a little time.
Additionally, It’s among those fastest-loading WordPress themes you will locate. Therefore, if you’re seeking the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s base is a good choice.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, so you should have no difficulty making your website load in under one second. Generatepress Footer Bar
