Background Generatepress Disable Footer
Over the past 10 years, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress topics and have been really disappointed. Up until recently, I was utilizing MyThemeShop, which was fairly good. However, I had to perform a lot of customization to allow it to perform and work the way I needed it to. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s undoubtedly the finest WordPress theme I’ve found in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am now moving all my websites to GeneratePress. I will enter exactly why in my comprehensive GeneratePress review below. And if you’re wondering, yes I have attempted Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi as well as many other lightweight and thicker multicolored themes. Generatepress Disable Footer
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I have really seen it for many years from the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I am fairly picky when it comes to web performance, so I tend to ignore everything from the repository. Typically because a lot of stuff on there is not that great, or not encouraged for long. However, in this case, this was a mistake. The motif now has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ busy matches, with over 500 5-star ratings. So clearly Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Really installed the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking precisely how I was envisioning a theme should work. And I’ll go into that more below, but let’s first look at some of the features. I’m going to be covering the superior version of the theme, because it’s worth very penny. In fact, Tom, if you ever read this and so are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, coffees on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t want running. This is only one of the biggest reasons I love GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all devices.
Schema built-in, for better results in SERPs.
Impressive integration with the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a lover of this customizer previously, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser service back to IE8.
Additionally, it works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these really are a great combo. I have also read that individuals using Beaver Builder have had success.
Font awesome built-in.
A lot of hooks and filters that make it great for programmers.
Excellent active support from the programmer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation can be unbelievable. Besides have great documentation on their website, the theme has existed long enough that everything I Googled during the setup procedure was found within a couple of seconds in their forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time to the fun part! I test a new theme right from the box with no customizations to see how quickly the base is. This tells me a great deal of what I can expect by the time that I add everything to it. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was quite impressed.
One Thing I was worried about with GeneratePress was that the modular layout was going to generate a whole lot of big files, but that isn’t the situation. You may tell that Tom actually worked hard on making sure that every record loaded in GeneratePress is as small as possible. With HTTP/2, the amount of documents is not as important. However, the size is! Have a peek at some of the core GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a developer that cares about performance! And I have Seen exactly the same during all the premium add-ons. They are literally as small as possible get them. In reality, Font Awesome is most likely the biggest file contained. And that isn’t even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving around the cornerwe can expect that to get smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate whatever you are not using to ensure they don’t load on your site. Since the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script supervisor built-in, I felt at home with this. Everything ought to be made this way.
If You’re interested, I am using the following add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is that I no longer need to use a Child theme. This makes my life much easier. No longer editing my functions.php or header.php documents. I will literally update my GeneratePress motif this very minute and not lose a single customization. The hooks add-on definitely helps make this possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. Generatepress Disable Footer
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post you have a great deal of alternatives. You are able to alter the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can quickly swap a page between the default to a full width page, in addition to disable elements.
The WordPress customizer choices is where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, a lot of these options are enabled by the premium add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we’d be here all day. But let me show you couple which really come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this can be created by precisely the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super easy way to incorporate responsive columns to any page or post. Characteristics include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid width
Add custom courses
Insert custom inline designs
Equal height columns
Here is An example below:
You May Want to Also grab his amazing WP Display Posts plugin too. See my featured posts on the sidebar of this website? That is using the WP Show Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a specific”featured” category. You can also get it show past modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works terrific.
The Segments add-in in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you perform all sorts of things in terms of design. Think of it like a page builder without the bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not only for blogs! I’m in reality utilizing GeneratePress to our ecommerce site (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to check it out. But as you can see below, it looks nothing like a blog.
For all those Of those who are regular readers, you likely didn’t even notice that I changed the whole theme that forces woorkup.com. It only took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif that I had spent annually customizing. Here is a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was already pretty fast, but I invested a great deal of time customizing it. In reality, I’ve gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to publish all of my customizations. My advice now is, simply get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
Together with the New GeneratePress motif I was able to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And keep in mind, I do not have a child theme. All the customizations were made with the awesome GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I have running on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he can make a replica of woorkup to your brand new GeneratePress site library. I’m pleased to let you know that you can now install my woorkup theme in your GeneratePress site with only a click! It’s called the Marketer theme. Get started with a great blog layout immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over my personal site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a motif from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimum website, as I do not use it to get much. Since you can see it loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to replicate the entire look 100% in GeneratePress in under one hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a few plugins which weren’t needed because of GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over our business site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimum website, as we just use it for our LLC. Since you can see it loaded pretty quickly. Generatepress Disable Footer
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to again move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under an hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was able to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my total page weight 2x!
I can not express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I’m moving over all my sites for this (which includes some EDD e-commerce websites ). After I have my 9 sites all running in GP with no child themes, my life is going to be a breeze! The developer has restored my faith in multi-purpose themes, which when done the right way, can actually perform quicker.
And The best thing is, I now have a thousand more choices to pick from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal alternative for performance-focused users that wish to be able to personalize and control exactly how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And since GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the site that you build will have a fantastic foundation to make it load fast.
Since Of that, people who build WordPress websites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll typically pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of website.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Combination If…
…you Want something that will immediately look perfect from the box.
For Example, if you know you want to create a style blog, you may be happier choosing a market theme that’s developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones when you first install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you will almost certainly will need to go in and customize matters. And though the significant advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, many users, particularly casual users, don’t like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features Which Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the specific features that clarify why GeneratePress is so popular.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another place where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization choices.
GeneratePress Utilizes the WordPress Customizer for customization, which is convenient as you will be able to see all the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress provides you adequate options, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you will be able to customize pretty much all about your website.
For Example, if you go into the Design area, you may configure detailed settings to yourown:
- Header — you can move your header round and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can utilize one or two sidebars
- Blog post design — like featured image size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to include
Likewise, The Typography place lets you control the font for each and every element on your website, such as buttons:
And You also get a detailed region to control the colour of each and every element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will provide you much more customization options from the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This level of detail might be a little overwhelming if you are a beginner. But once you understand how the preferences come together, you will have complete control on how your website looks.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Across All of its features, GeneratePress always includes a focus on excellent performance and clean code. The whole motif is less than 30 kB, which is about as small as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And some poorly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also does not have any code dependencies, which helps you avoid the render obstructing error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Put That collectively, and you get a superfast-loading motif. How quickly? To give you an idea, I conducted a small test.
First, I set up an empty website using a haphazard popular WordPress.org motif (Envo Magazine). After testing its performance with Pingdom, it
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That is Not bad in any way! But GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on exactly the exact same test website without altering anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance tier of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% faster
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% less
If You do that same test with different themes, you’ll continue to see that GeneratePress is one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes in life. Generatepress Disable Footer
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Beyond Giving you more style controls from the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other helpful features like:
- Elements — a unique feature which lets you create custom hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a exceptional page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — that is kind of like lightweight page building. It permits you to create different”sections” on a webpage, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Stay lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular interface where you can pick and choose exactly which features you want to trigger.
That Way, you don’t need to slow your site down for a quality that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you had to construct GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas regardless of what, which made the theme difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, though, the programmer added a fresh Website Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users that allows you easily import any among those 25+ pre-built demonstration websites .
You Can import them directly from the WordPress dashboard.
Yes this Website still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a couple buttons to import a demo site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Comprehensive Control Over Every Bit Of Content
With Most topics, each page and post will use the same configurations for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — but you do not have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a new Design meta name box for every single post and page:
You Can utilize this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as altering the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to use
- Disable certain elements, such as your header, navigation menu, post featured picture, article title, or footer
- Create a special”container” to your own page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you are using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you are able to produce the proper baseline for your page builder layout, making it easy to create custom content as needed. Generatepress Disable Footer
GeneratePress Replies: Cheap And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress motif can be obtained at no cost at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re serious about utilizing GeneratePress, I feel you need to buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what makes the theme so elastic. The free version does not give you nearly as many settings in the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still fairly affordable. It costs just $39.95, and that provides you use on infinite websites . You will also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and updates after the initial year (you can, of course, keep using GeneratePress following the first year without beating — you won’t receive any more updates).
When You consider the normal premium WordPress theme will often cost around $60, GeneratePress offers a fantastic price.
As I said, I do not think GeneratePress is for everyone.
If You want a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that fits your requirements for your niche out of day one.
However, If you are willing to spend time changing settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any sort of WordPress site. Or, you might even have the ability to find a starter website that fulfills your needs to save a little time.
Additionally, It’s among the fastest-loading WordPress topics that you will locate. Therefore, if you’re looking for the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a good choice.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, you shouldn’t have any problem making your site load in under one second. Generatepress Disable Footer
