Intro Generatepress Acf
Over the previous 10 decades, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress themes and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I was utilizing MyThemeShop, that was fairly good. However, I had to perform a great deal of customization to make it perform and work the way I wanted it to. A couple of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it is undoubtedly the best WordPress theme I have found in a decade . I was dismissed and am now moving all my sites to GeneratePress. I will enter precisely why in my in-depth GeneratePress review below. And if you are wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X motif, Divi as well as several other lightweight and thicker multi-purpose themes. Generatepress Acf
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme created by Tom Usborne, a programmer from Canada. I have actually seen it for many years from the WordPress repository. Most of you realize that I’m pretty picky when it comes to web performance, and so I have a tendency to dismiss everything in the repository. Typically because a great deal of things on there is not that great, or not encouraged for long. However, in this case, this was a mistake. The motif currently has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ active installs, with over 500 5-star evaluations. So clearly Tom is doing some thing right here.
I Really installed the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking precisely how I was envisioning a theme should get the job done. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at some of the features. I’m going to be covering the premium edition of the subject, because it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you ever read this and so are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, java on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable things you don’t need running. This is only one of the biggest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all devices.
Schema built-in, for better results in SERPs.
Impressive integration with all the WordPress Customizer. I haven’t been a lover of the customizer in the past, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with all popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Fantastic browser service back to IE8.
It also works great with the popular fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you want to dive into even more customizations, these are a great combo. I’ve also read that people using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font awesome built in.
A lot of hooks and filters that make it great for developers.
Great active service from the developer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also incredible. Besides have great documentation on their site, the theme has been around long enough that everything I wholeheartedly during the setup process was found within a few seconds in their own forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time to the fun part! I always test a new theme right out of the box without any customizations to just see how fast the base is. This tells me a great deal of what I could expect by the time that I add everything for this. Running the inventory GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms load time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to generate a whole lot of big files, but that isn’t the situation. You may tell that Tom literally worked hard on making sure every record packed in GeneratePress is as small as possible. With HTTP/2, the amount of documents is not as significant. But the size is! Take a look at a few of the center GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a programmer that cares about functionality! And I have Seen exactly the same during each of the premium add-ons. They are literally as small as you can possibly get them. In fact, Font Awesome is most likely the biggest file included. And that isn’t even his. With Font Awesome 5 coming round the corner, we can expect that to secure smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are installation in what I would call a modular layout. You can activate/deactivate whatever you aren’t using to ensure they don’t load on your website. As the co-developer of this perfmatters plugin that has a script manager built, I felt right at home with this. Everything should be designed this way.
If You are curious, I’m using the next add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best characteristics of GeneratePress is I no longer have to use a Child motif . This makes my life much simpler. No longer editing my functions.php or header.php documents. I will literally upgrade my GeneratePress theme this exact minute rather than shed a single customization. The hooks add-on definitely can help make this possible. It allows you to add custom code/PHP everywhere throughout your WordPress site. Generatepress Acf
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post that you have a lot of options. You can alter the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page between the default to a complete width page, as well as disable elements.
The WordPress customizer choices is where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, lots of these options are enabled by the superior add-ons. I can not show you everything, otherwise, we would be here daily. However, allow me to show you few which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is your free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also created by the exact same developer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super simple way to add responsive columns to any page or article. Features include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid width
Insert custom courses
Insert custom inline styles
Equal height columns
This is An example under:
You might want to Also catch his incredible WP Show Posts plugin also. See my featured articles on the sidebar of this site? That’s using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to show posts from a specific”featured” category. You can also get it show last modified/updated articles, recent posts, etc.. I am using the free version and it works terrific.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress lets you perform all kinds of things concerning design. Think of it like a page builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not just for blogs! I’m in reality utilizing GeneratePress to our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to look it over. But as you can see below, it looks nothing like a site.
For those Of those that are regular readers, you likely didn’t even notice I changed the whole motif that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif which I had spent a year customizing. Here is a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop theme was already pretty fast, but I invested a great deal of time scrutinizing it. In reality, I have gotten a lot of emails from you guys asking me to print all of my customizations. My advice now is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress theme I was able to attain faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child motif. Each of the customizations were made with the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I’ve running on woorkup? You are in luck. Tom asked if he can create a replica of woorkup for the new GeneratePress site library. I’m happy to allow you to know that you can now install my woorkup theme on your own GeneratePress site with just a single click! It’s called the Marketer theme. Get started using a great blog design instantly.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
Additionally, I Moved over my personal website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a motif from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimal site, as I do not use it to get much. As you can see it already loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to replicate the whole look 100 percent in GeneratePress in under one hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a couple plugins that weren’t needed due to GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our business site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimum site, as we just use it for our LLC. Since you can see it already loaded pretty quickly. Generatepress Acf
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to move everything over and get it looking just how I wanted it in under an hour. And as you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can not express my Excitement about finding GeneratePress and I am moving over all my websites to it (which comprises some EDD e-commerce sites). Once I have my 9 websites all running in GP with no child themes, my life is going to be a breeze! The programmer has revived my faith in multi-purpose themes, and that when done the right way, can actually perform quicker.
And The best thing isI now have a thousand more options to choose from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the perfect alternative for performance-focused users that wish to have the ability to customize and control precisely how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the website that you build will have a great base to make it load quickly.
Because Of that, those who assemble WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll typically pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any type of site.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Fantastic Fit If…
…you Want something that will immediately appear perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you know you wish to create a fashion blog, you may be happier picking out a market theme that is developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
While GeneratePress has gotten a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Website Library, GeneratePress still seems very barebones when you initially install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you’ll almost certainly will need to go in and personalize matters. And while the significant advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, especially casual users, do not like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features Which Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the specific characteristics that clarify why GeneratePress is indeed popular.
Lots Of Customization Options In The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Performance, another area where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization choices.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, which is convenient because you will be able to see all the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress gives you decent options, but if you have GeneratePress Premium, you will be able to customize pretty much all about your website.
For Example, if you go into the Design area, you can configure detailed settings to yourown:
- Header — you can move your header around and alter its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, including sticky menus
- Sidebar design — you can use one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — such as featured image size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like how many widgets to add
Likewise, That the Typography area lets you control the font for each and every element on your site, such as buttons:
And You also get a detailed area to control the color of every single element on your site.
All In all, GeneratePress will give you much more customization choices from the WordPress Customizer than most other themes. This level of detail may be a bit overwhelming if you’re a beginner. But as soon as you realize the way the settings come together, you’ll have full control on how your site looks.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Around All of its features, GeneratePress consistently has a focus on excellent performance and tidy code. The whole motif is less than 30 kB, and it will be about as small as you’ll ever find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And some badly coded topics can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which will help you avoid the render blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often mentions.
Put That together, and you get a superfast-loading theme. How quickly? To give you an idea, I conducted a small test.
First, I set up an empty website using a random popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That is Not bad in any way! But GeneratePress can perform.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on the exact same test site without changing anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress failed:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% less
If You perform that same test with different topics, you’ll continue to see that GeneratePress is among those fastest-loading WordPress themes in life. Generatepress Acf
Other Useful Premium Extensions, Plus Much Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls from the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features such as:
- Elements — a unique feature that lets you create custom hooks, page headers, or layout templates.
- Page Header — lets you create a unique page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is sort of like lightweight page building. It lets you create different”sections” onto a webpage, each with their own layout and column settings.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular interface where you could pick and choose exactly which characteristics you would like to trigger.
That Way, you do not have to slow your site down for a feature which you’re never going to use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Site
In The past, you needed to construct GeneratePress websites from a blank canvas regardless of what, which made the theme difficult for casual users to set up.
Earlier In 2018, however, the programmer added a new Site Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users that lets you easily import any among those 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them right from the WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a couple buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Comprehensive Control Over Every Bit Of Content
With Most themes, each post and page will use the very same settings for the most part. You might have some custom formats or templates — however you don’t have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a brand new Layout meta box for each and every page and post:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your site uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to utilize
- Disable certain elements, like your header, navigation menu, article featured picture, article title, or footer
- Create a special”container” for your page builder
Where These controls are the most useful is if you’re using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you are in a position to produce the correct baseline for your page builder layout, which makes it easy to create custom articles as needed. Generatepress Acf
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress motif can be obtained at no cost at WordPress.org.
Nevertheless, If you’re serious about using GeneratePress, I feel you should purchase the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what produces the theme so elastic. The free version does not give you almost as numerous settings in the WordPress Customizer. And you will also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still fairly affordable. It costs only $39.95, and that provides you use on unlimited sites. You will also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and updates after the first year (you can, of course, continue using GeneratePress following the first year without renewing — you just won’t receive any more updates).
When You consider the typical premium WordPress theme will often cost around $60, GeneratePress offers a fantastic value.
As I mentioned, I do not think GeneratePress is for everybody.
If You want a niche-specific theme, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that fits your requirements for your niche out of day one.
However, If you’re ready to spend time altering preferences, then GeneratePress’ style controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any sort of WordPress site. Or, you may even have the ability to locate a starter website that fulfills your needs to save some time.
Additionally, It is one of the fastest-loading WordPress topics you will find. So if you’re seeking the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a good choice.
If You combine it with fast-loading hosting, so you should have no difficulty making your site load in under one second. Generatepress Acf
