Background Free Word Themes
Within the past ten years, I’ve used a lot of different WordPress topics and have been really disappointed. Up till recently, I had been using MyThemeShop, that was fairly good. But I still had to do a great deal of customization to allow it to perform and operate how I wanted it to. A couple weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s by far the best WordPress theme I have discovered in 10 years. I was blown away and am now moving all of my sites to GeneratePress. I’ll go into precisely why in my comprehensive GeneratePress review below. And if you are wondering, yes I have tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi as well as many other lightweight and heavier multi-purpose themes. Free Word Themes
GeneratePress is a totally free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a developer from Canada. I’ve really seen it for years from the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I am pretty picky when it comes to web performance, and so I tend to dismiss everything from the repository. Typically because a great deal of stuff on there is not that good, or not supported for long. However, in this case, that was a mistake. The motif now has over half a million downloads, 80,000+ active installs, with over 500 5-star ratings. So obviously Tom is doing something right here.
I Actually set up the free version of the theme and in a matter of 15 minutes bought the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the developer was thinking exactly how I was imagining a theme should work. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at a number of the qualities. I will be covering the premium edition of the theme, because it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you ever read this and so are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, java on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t want running. This is one of the greatest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all of the devices.
Schema built-in, for greater outcomes in SERPs.
Impressive integration using the WordPress Customizer. I haven’t been a lover of this customizer previously, but Tom does it right.
Compatible with popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser support back to IE8.
It also works great with all the popular fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these really are a terrific combo. I’ve also read that individuals using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font awesome built-in.
Tons of filters and hooks which make it good for programmers.
Great active service from the programmer. Normally, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also unbelievable. Besides have good documentation on their website, the theme has existed long enough that everything I Googled during the setup procedure was found inside a few seconds from their forum.
Going Deep Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time to the fun part! I always test a brand new theme right out of the box without any customizations to just see how quickly the foundation is. This tells me a great deal of what I can expect by the time I add everything to it. Running the inventory GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was very impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular design was going to generate a lot of big files, but this isn’t the situation. You may tell that Tom actually worked hard on making sure every file loaded in GeneratePress is as small as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the amount of documents is not as important. But the size is! Take a peek at a few of the center GeneratePress files under:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
That is a programmer that cares about functionality! And I have Seen the same during all the premium add-ons. They are literally as small as you can possibly get them. In fact, Font Awesome is probably the largest file contained. And that is not even his. With Font Awesome 5 coming around the cornerwe can anticipate that to secure smaller too.
The premium add-ons Are setup in what I would call a modular design. You can activate/deactivate anything you are not using to ensure they don’t load on your site. Since the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built, I felt at home for this. Everything should be made this way.
If You’re interested, I’m using the next add-ons on this site:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best characteristics of GeneratePress is that I no more have to use a young child motif . This makes my life so much easier. No more editing my functions.php or header.php documents. I will literally update my GeneratePress theme this very moment rather than shed one customization. The hooks add-on certainly helps make it possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. Free Word Themes
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On each Page/post that you have a lot of alternatives. You can alter the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can easily swap a page between the default to a full width page, in addition to disable components.
The WordPress customizer options is really where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, lots of these options are permitted from the premium add-ons. I can not show you everything, otherwise, we would be here all day. But let me show you couple which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly recommend grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also made by the same developer as GeneratePress. It enables you a super simple way to incorporate responsive columns into any page or post. Features include:
Desktop grid thickness
Tablet grid width
Mobile grid width
Insert custom classes
Add custom inline designs
Equal height columns
This is An example below:
You May Want to Also catch his amazing WP Show Posts plugin also. See my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That is using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to display posts from a particular”featured” category. You can also get it show last modified/updated articles, recent articles, etc.. I am using the free version and it works terrific.
The Segments add-in in the premium version of GeneratePress allows you to perform all kinds of things concerning design. Think of it like a webpage builder without the bloat. GeneratePress is definitely not only for blogs! I’m in reality utilizing GeneratePress to our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Don’t hesitate to look it over. But as you can see below, it looks like a site.
For those Of those who are regular readers, you probably did not even notice I changed the entire motif that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour for GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop motif which I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison under.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop theme was already pretty fast, but I invested a great deal of time customizing it. In fact, I have gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to publish all of my customizations. My advice today is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress theme I was able to attain faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And keep in mind, I do not have a child motif. Each of the customizations were made with the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I have working on woorkup? You’re in luck. Tom asked if he could create a copy of woorkup to your brand new GeneratePress site library. I am pleased to let you know that now you can put in my woorkup motif on your GeneratePress site with only a click! It is known as the Marketer theme. Get started using a great blog design immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over my private website, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a theme from Array Themes. It’s a pretty basic minimum website, since I do not use it for much. As you can see it already loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to duplicate the whole look 100 percent in GeneratePress in under one hour. And as you can see it loads faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a couple plugins which weren’t needed because of GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our business site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a theme from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimum site, as we simply use it to our LLC. Since you can see it already loaded pretty fast. Free Word Themes
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to again move everything over and get it looking exactly how I wanted it in under one hour. And since you can view it loads faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page burden 2x!
I can not express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I’m moving over all of my sites for this (which includes several EDD e-commerce sites). Once I have my 9 sites all running in GP without any child topics, my life will be a breeze! The programmer has revived my faith in multi-purpose subjects , which when done the correct way, can actually perform quicker.
And The best news is, I now have a billion more choices to choose from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Good For…
GeneratePress Is the ideal alternative for performance-focused users that want to have the ability to personalize and control exactly how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress do pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on functionality, the website that you build will have a fantastic base to make it load quickly.
Since Of that, people who build WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They’ll typically pair it with a WordPress page builder and use it for literally any type of site.
However GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Combination If…
…you Need something which will instantly appear perfect from the box.
For Example, if you know you wish to produce a style blog, you may be happier choosing a market theme that’s developed exclusively for trend bloggers.
While GeneratePress has gotten a great deal easier to use, thanks to its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still looks very barebones when you initially install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you’ll most likely need to go in and personalize matters. And while the substantial benefit of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, many users, especially casual users, do not like having to make those changes themselves.
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the particular features that explain why GeneratePress is so popular.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another place where GeneratePress does nicely is its customization choices.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, which can be convenient because you will have the ability to see all of the changes that you make in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress gives you decent options, but should you have GeneratePress Premium, you will have the ability to customize nearly all about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Layout region, you can configure comprehensive settings for your:
- Header — you can move your header round and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can utilize one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — such as featured picture size, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — like the number of widgets to add
Similarly, The Typography place lets you control the font for every single element on your website, such as buttons:
And You also get a thorough region to control the color of every single element on your site.
All Whatsoever, GeneratePress will provide you a lot more customization options from the WordPress Customizer than most other themes. This level of detail might be a little overwhelming if you are a beginner. But once you understand the way the settings come together, you will have full control over how your site looks.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Across All its attributes, GeneratePress consistently includes a focus on exceptional performance and tidy code. The entire theme is less than 30 kB, which is about as small as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And a few poorly coded themes can even exceed 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also has no code dependencies, which will help you avoid the leave blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Place That collectively, and you get a superfast-loading motif. How quickly? To give you a sense, I conducted a small test.
First, I set up a vacant website using a random popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its performance with Pingdom, it
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 seconds
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 requests
That is Not bad in any way! But GeneratePress can perform.
Next, I triggered GeneratePress on exactly the same test website without changing anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress did:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points better
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 asks, ~40% less
If You do that same test with different topics, you’ll continue to find that GeneratePress is one of the fastest-loading WordPress themes in life. Free Word Themes
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus A Modular Approach
Past Giving you more design controls from the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium also comes with a lot of other useful features like:
- Elements — a exceptional feature that allows you create custom hooks, page headers, or design templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a unique page header onto a per-page basis.
- Sections — that is sort of like lightweight page construction. It permits you to create separate”sections” onto a webpage, each with their own layout and column preferences.
To Remain lightweight, GeneratePress also gives you a modular port where you can select and choose exactly which characteristics you want to activate.
That Way, you don’t need to slow your site down for a feature that you’ll never use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Site
In The past, you had to build GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas no matter what, which made the motif difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, though, the developer added a fresh Site Library attribute for GeneratePress Premium users which allows you easily import any among the 25+ pre-built demo sites.
You Can import them directly from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click on a couple buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Provide You Comprehensive Control Over Each Piece Of Content
With Most topics, every post and page will use the same settings for the most part. You might have some custom templates or formats — however you don’t have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a brand new Layout meta box for every single post and page:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change how many sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (like changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose how many footer widgets to use
- Disable certain components, like your header, navigation menu, post featured picture, post title, or footer
- Create a special”container” for your page builder
Where These controls would be the most helpful is if you’re using a WordPress site builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you’re able to create the proper baseline for your page builder layout, which makes it easy to create custom articles as needed. Free Word Themes
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Heart GeneratePress motif is available for free at WordPress.org.
That said, If you’re serious about utilizing GeneratePress, I believe you need to buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what makes the theme so flexible. The free version does not give you almost as many configurations in the WordPress Customizer. And you’ll also miss out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still fairly affordable. It costs only $39.95, and that gives you use on unlimited sites. You’ll also get a 40% discount if you would like to renew to continue receiving support and updates after the first year (you can, of course, continue using GeneratePress following the first year without beating — you just won’t get any more upgrades ).
When You believe that the typical premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress offers a fantastic price.
As I mentioned, I do not think GeneratePress is for everyone.
If You want a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by purchasing a theme that satisfies your requirements for your niche out of day one.
However, If you are ready to spend some time changing settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any sort of WordPress website. Or, you might even be able to locate a starter website that fulfills your needs to save a little time.
Additionally, It’s one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes you will find. Therefore, if you’re seeking the best performance possible, utilizing GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s foundation is a good choice.
If You combine it with fast-loading hosting, you shouldn’t have any difficulty making your website load in under one second. Free Word Themes
