Intro Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
Over the previous 10 decades, I have used a great deal of different WordPress topics and have been very disappointed. Up till recently, I was using MyThemeShop, which was fairly good. But I had to do a lot of customization to make it do and operate how I needed it to. A few of weeks ago I decided to give GeneratePress a try, and let me just say, it’s undoubtedly the finest WordPress theme I have found in 10 years. I had been dismissed and am moving all of my websites to GeneratePress. I’ll go into exactly why in my in-depth GeneratePress review below. And if you’re wondering, yes I’ve tried Genesis, Astra, OceanWP, Avada, X theme, Divi in addition to many other lightweight and thicker multi-purpose themes. Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
GeneratePress is a free WordPress theme made by Tom Usborne, a developer from Canada. I’ve really seen it for years in the WordPress repository. Most of you know that I am pretty picky when it comes to web performance, so I tend to dismiss everything from the repository. Typically because a great deal of stuff on there is not that good, or not encouraged for long. However, in this case, this was a mistake. The motif currently has more than half a million downloads, 80,000+ busy matches, with over 500 5-star evaluations. So obviously Tom is doing something right here.
I Actually installed the free version of the motif and in a matter of 15 minutes purchased the superior version. I could tell right off the bat, the programmer was thinking exactly how I was imagining a theme should get the job done. And I will go into that more below, but let’s first look at a number of the features. I’m going to be covering the superior edition of the theme, since it’s worth very penny. Actually, Tom, if you ever read this and are visiting Scottsdale, Arizona, java on me.
Super lightweight and quick. Modular design allowing you to enable/disable items you don’t want running. This is only one of the greatest reasons I adore GeneratePress.
Responsive, looks fantastic across all of the devices.
Schema built-in, for better results in SERPs.
Dramatic integration using the WordPress Customizer. I have not been a fan of the customizer in the past, but Tom does it correctly.
Compatible with all popular plugins, Yoast SEO, WooCommerce, EDD, BuddyPress, bbPress, and WPML. Great browser support back to IE8.
Additionally, it works great with all the favorite fast-growing Elementor page builder. If you would like to dive into even more customizations, these are a terrific combo. I’ve also read that individuals using Beaver Builder have experienced success.
Font wonderful built-in.
Tons of hooks and filters which make it great for programmers.
Excellent active support from the developer. On average, 3 updates per month.
The Documentation is also incredible. Besides have great documentation on their website, the subject has existed long enough that everything I Googled during the setup procedure was found inside a few seconds in their forum.
Diving Into GeneratePress
Now it’s Time to the fun part! I test a brand new theme right out of the box without any customizations to see how fast the base is. This tells me a lot of what I can expect by the time I add everything for this. Running the stock GeneratePress WordPress motif on Kinsta hosting clocked in at a whopping 265 ms loading time. I was quite impressed.
One Thing I was concerned about with GeneratePress was that the modular layout was going to produce a lot of big files, but this is not the situation. You can tell that Tom actually worked hard on making sure that every record loaded in GeneratePress is as small as possible. Together with HTTP/2, the amount of files is not as significant. However, the size is! Take a peek at a few of the center GeneratePress files below:
/generatepress/css/unsemantic-grid. min.css 2.9 KB
/generatepress/style. css 7.1 KB
/generatepress/css/mobile. min.css 1.6 KB
/generatepress/js/navigation. min.js 1.1 KB
/generatepress/js/dropdown. min.js 1.5 KB
This is a programmer that cares about functionality! And I have Seen the same throughout all of the premium add-ons. They are literally as small as you can possibly get them. In fact, Font Awesome is most likely the biggest file included. And that isn’t even his. Together with Font Awesome 5 arriving round the corner, we can anticipate that to get smaller also.
The premium add-ons Are setup in what I’d call a modular layout. It is possible to activate/deactivate whatever you are not using to ensure they don’t load on your website. Since the co-developer of the perfmatters plugin which has a script manager built-in, I felt at home with this. Everything should be made this way.
If You’re curious, I’m using the next add-ons on this website:
No Child Theme Needed
One of The best features of GeneratePress is I no longer need to use a Child motif . This makes my life so much simpler. No more editing my functions.php or header.php documents. I can literally update my GeneratePress motif this very minute and not lose a single customization. The hooks add-on definitely can help make this possible. It permits you to add custom code/PHP anywhere throughout your WordPress website. Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
Other Things I Love About GeneratePress
On every Page/post you have a great deal of alternatives. You are able to change the sidebar design and the footer widgets.
You Can quickly swap a page involving the default option to a full width page, as well as disable components.
The WordPress customizer options is where GeneratePress really shines! Remember, a lot of these options are permitted from the premium add-ons. I can’t show you everything, otherwise, we would be here daily. However, let me show you couple which actually come in handy.
Another Plugin I highly suggest grabbing is the free Lightweight Grid Columns. Not to my surprise, this is also created by the exact same programmer as GeneratePress. It allows you a super simple way to incorporate responsive columns to any page or article. Features include:
Desktop grid width
Tablet grid thickness
Mobile grid thickness
Insert custom classes
Add custom inline styles
Equal height columns
Here is An example under:
You might want to Also catch his incredible WP Display Posts plugin too. See my featured posts on the sidebar of this site? That is using the WP Display Posts plugin. I have it set to display posts from a particular”featured” category. You can also have it show last modified/updated posts, recent posts, etc.. I’m using the free version and it works great.
The Sections add-on in the premium edition of GeneratePress allows you to do all sorts of things concerning design. Think of it like a webpage builder with no bloat. GeneratePress is certainly not just for blogs! I’m in fact using GeneratePress to our ecommerce website (perfmatters.io) which is running Easy Digital Downloads. Feel free to check it out. However, as you can see below, it looks nothing like a blog.
For those Of those who are regular readers, you likely did not even notice that I changed the entire motif that powers woorkup.com. It just took me about an hour to get GeneratePress to mimic my MyThemeShop theme that I had spent annually customizing. Here’s a comparison below.
woorkup.com Old MyThemeShop Theme
My older MyThemeShop motif was pretty fast, but I spent a lot of time scrutinizing it. In fact, I’ve gotten a great deal of emails from you guys asking me to publish all of my customizations. My advice today is, just get GeneratePress!
woorkup.com New GeneratePress Theme
With the New GeneratePress theme I managed to achieve faster speeds and 600 fewer lines of code! And remember, I do not have a child motif. Each of the customizations were created using the wonderful GP hooks and snippets plugin (both CSS and PHP).
Like the WordPress theme I have running on woorkup? You’re in luck. Tom asked if he could make a replica of woorkup to your new GeneratePress site library. I am pleased to let you know that now you can put in my woorkup motif on your own GeneratePress website with just a single click! It is called the Marketer theme. Get started using a fantastic blog layout immediately.
brianjackson.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved within my private site, brianjackson.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I had been using a motif from Array Themes. It’s a fairly basic minimal site, as I don’t use it for much. Since you can see it already loaded pretty quickly.
brianjackson.io New GeneratePress Theme
I had been Able to replicate the entire look 100 percent in GeneratePress in under one hour. And since you can view it loads even faster! Amazing. I was even able to get rid of a few plugins that weren’t needed because of GP.
forgemedia.io Old Array Theme’s Theme
I also Moved over our business site, forgemedia.io, to GeneratePress. Previously I was using a motif from Array Themes. It is a pretty basic minimal website, as we just use it to our LLC. Since you can see it loaded pretty quickly. Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
forgemedia.io New GeneratePress Theme
I was Able to move everything over and get it looking exactly how I needed it in under one hour. And as you can see it loads faster! Amazing. I managed to get rid of a total of four plugins and it dropped my whole page weight 2x!
I can’t express my Excitement about locating GeneratePress and I am moving over all my websites for this (which comprises some EDD e-commerce sites). After I’ve got my 9 sites all running in GP without any child themes, my life is going to be a breeze! The developer has restored my faith in multi-purpose subjects , and that when done the correct way, can actually perform faster.
And The best thing isI now have a thousand more choices to choose from than I did before.
What GeneratePress Is Great For…
GeneratePress Is the perfect option for performance-focused users who wish to be able to customize and control exactly how their site appears.
You Can make GeneratePress perform pretty much anything. And because GeneratePress has a focus on performance, the site that you build will have a fantastic foundation to make it load quickly.
Because Of that, people who assemble WordPress sites for a living love GeneratePress. They will normally pair it with a WordPress site builder and use it for literally any type of site.
But GeneratePress Might Not Be A Good Combination If…
…you Want something that will instantly look perfect out of the box.
For Example, if you know you want to produce a style blog, you might be happier choosing a niche theme that is developed exclusively for fashion bloggers.
Even though GeneratePress has gotten a great deal easier to use, as a result of its pre-built Site Library, GeneratePress still looks very barebones if you first install it.
So To make GeneratePress look how you would like it to, you will almost certainly need to go in and personalize matters. And while the significant advantage of GeneratePress is how customizable it is, some users, particularly casual users, don’t like having to make those changes .
GeneratePress Features That Make It Unique
Here Are a few of the specific characteristics that clarify why GeneratePress is indeed common.
Lots Of Customization Options From The Real-Time WordPress Customizer
Beyond Functionality, another place where GeneratePress does well is its customization options.
GeneratePress Uses the WordPress Customizer for customization, which can be convenient because you’ll be able to see all the changes that you create in real time.
The Free variant of GeneratePress provides you adequate options, but should you own GeneratePress Premium, you will have the ability to customize nearly all about your website.
For Example, if you go in the Design region, you may configure comprehensive settings for yourown:
- Header — you can move your header round and change its styling
- Navigation — GeneratePress gives you two different navigation options, such as sticky menus
- Sidebar layout — you can utilize one or two sidebars
- Blog post layout — like featured picture dimensions, metadata, etc..
- Footer layout — just like the number of widgets to add
Likewise, The Typography area enables you to control the font for each and every element on your website, including buttons:
And You also receive a thorough area to control the color of each and every element on your site.
All Whatsoever, GeneratePress will give you a lot more customization options from the WordPress Customizer compared to most other topics. This amount of detail might be a bit overwhelming if you’re a beginner. But as soon as you realize how the preferences come together, you will have full control on how your site looks.
Optimized Performance And Fast Page Load Times
Across All its attributes, GeneratePress always has a focus on excellent performance and tidy code. The entire motif is less than 30 kB, and it is about as small as you are ever going to find for a WordPress theme. Even most other optimized WordPress themes are still 200+ kB. And a few badly coded topics can even surpass 1 MB!
GeneratePress Also does not have any code dependencies, which helps you avoid the render blocking error that Google Pagespeed Insights often cites.
Place That collectively, and you obtain a superfast-loading theme. How fast? To give you a sense, I ran a little test.
First, I set up a vacant website utilizing a random popular WordPress.org theme (Envo Magazine). After analyzing its performance with Pingdom, it:
- Had a performance grade of 77
- Loaded in 1.05 moments
- Had a page size of 243.9 kB
- Had 15 asks
That’s Not bad at all! But GeneratePress can do better.
Next, I activated GeneratePress on exactly the same test site without changing anything else. Here’s how GeneratePress did:
- Had a performance grade of 87, 10 points greater
- Loaded in 666 ms, ~37% quicker
- Had a page size of 26.8 kB, ~90% smaller
- Had 9 requests, ~40% less
If You perform that same test with other themes, you’ll continue to find that GeneratePress is among those fastest-loading WordPress themes in life. Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
Other Helpful Premium Extensions, Plus A Modular Approach
Past Giving you more style controls in the WordPress Customizer, GeneratePress Premium comes with a lot of other useful features such as:
- Elements — a exceptional feature that lets you create customized hooks, page headers, or layout templates.
- Page Header — allows you create a exceptional page header on a per-page basis.
- Sections — this is sort of like lightweight page construction. It lets you create different”sections” on a page, each with their own layout and column settings.
To Stay lightweight, GeneratePress also provides you a modular port where you could pick and choose what features you would like to trigger.
That Way, you don’t need to slow your site down for a quality which you’re never going to use.
Pre-Made Starter Sites Make It Easier To Design Your Website
In The past, you had to build GeneratePress sites from a blank canvas regardless of what, which made the theme difficult for casual users to install.
Earlier In 2018, however, the developer added a fresh Site Library feature for GeneratePress Premium users that allows you easily import any among the 25+ pre-built demonstration websites .
You Can import them right from your WordPress dashboard.
Yes — this site still uses GeneratePress! All I did was click a few buttons to import a presentation site.
Page-Level Settings Give You Detailed Control Over Every Piece Of Content
With Most themes, each post and page will use the very same configurations for the most part. You may have some custom templates or formats — however you do not have very much control beyond that.
GeneratePress Changes that by giving you a new Layout meta name box for every single post and page:
You Can use this meta box to:
- Change the number of sidebars your website uses, or the sidebar orientation (such as changing the sidebar from right to left)
- Choose the number of footer widgets to use
- Disable certain components, such as your header, navigation menu, post featured picture, article title, or footer
- Produce a special”container” for your own page builder
Where These controls would be the most useful is if you are using a WordPress page builder.
By Disabling certain elements, you’re able to create the correct baseline for your page builder layout, which makes it easy to create custom articles as needed. Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
GeneratePress Replies: Affordable And Works On Unlimited Sites
The Core GeneratePress theme can be obtained for free at WordPress.org.
Nevertheless, If you are serious about using GeneratePress, I believe you should buy the GeneratePress Premium plugin, as that’s what makes the theme so flexible. The free version doesn’t give you nearly as many settings from the WordPress Customizer. And you will also lose out on the premade Site Library.
GeneratePress Premium can be still quite reasonably priced. It costs only $39.95, and that gives you use on unlimited sites. You’ll also get a 40% discount if you want to renew to continue receiving support and updates following the initial year (you can, obviously, keep using GeneratePress after the first year without renewing — you won’t receive any more updates).
When You believe the typical premium WordPress theme will usually cost around $60, GeneratePress provides a fantastic price.
As I mentioned, I do not think GeneratePress is for everyone.
If You desire a niche-specific motif, you can probably save time by buying a theme that satisfies your needs for your niche from day one.
But If you are willing to spend time changing settings, GeneratePress’ mode controls give you the flexibility to flip it into any type of WordPress site. Or, you might even have the ability to locate a starter website that fulfills your needs to save a little time.
Additionally, It is one of those fastest-loading WordPress themes you will locate. Therefore, if you’re looking for the best performance possible, using GeneratePress as your WordPress site’s base is a great decision.
If You blend it with fast-loading hosting, so you should have no problem making your website load in under one minute. Best Coming Soon Website Template WordPress
